Interesting article on Disney banking on 3-D for their upcoming films, from the AP.
"The studio announced Tuesday that 3-D versions of the computer-animated tales “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2” will be released Oct. 2 for a two-week run as a double feature. Disney also is preparing a 3-D version of its hand-drawn animated musical “Beauty and the Beast” for release Feb. 12, 2010."
But check out the whole article (it’s not that long) which talks about films from other studios as well.
Whoohoo! Dates of the Toy Story 3D releases! Will be refreshing my cinema’s website like crazy a month before release so I can get my grubby hands on tickets
Double-feature? Like both movies shown consecutively or both released separately but at the same time?
And, although it’s non-Pixar, I’m excited for Beauty And The Beast. Watched it already in cinematic & theatric form, and I’d like to add another means to those two…
Awesome!
EDIT: BTW the information was released on March 11 despite the article originating from today/yesterday… how the heck did this important release date slip from my news feed?
Very cool. I can’t wait to sit through a double feature of Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Also, Tron 2 is gonna be 3D? Awesome. Even though it’s not a very good movie, I like tron for three resons. 1. Kingdom Hearts 2. Light Cycles. 3. Jeff Bridges.
What would the effect be with all those 3d movies? they were never intended to be released as 3d feature so the advantages gained would be close to none.
Just my thoughts.
I gotta say I would rather see them as they were going to be, released separately for longer engagements. I’m not sure if I’ll get the chance to sit through a double feature especially during just a 2 week run. Plus wearing those 3D glasses for that long will probably be irritating for me.
So they’re releasing Toy Story 2 in 3-D too? Hm… my eyes will probably hurt after having objects repeatedly ‘poked’ and ‘thrown’ at it.
I’m intrigued how they’re gonna pull off a 3-D version of Beauty and the Beast. I’m all for a theatrical re-release, but like Bryko said, how on Earth are they gonna make a 2-D cell animation 3-D?
