Title says it all, this is a thread for people to discuss their thoughts on the Disney Princess line from Disney, pretty much anything to do with it really.
This did come up in the “Which Disney Franchise has the worst Fanbase?” thread but it got steered off topic, so I’ve made this thread as a remedy for that. XD Anyways…
Now, I do like several of the characters from the Disney Princess line, but I hate the concept of it It contains a character who isn’t even a princess, that being Belle, one who shouldn’t even be refered to as a Princess due to her culture (that being Pocahontas) one where labelling her as a princess defeats the object of her character (Mulan) and I could go on but…yeah.
Also, IMO save for Ariel, Cinderella and Aurora I feel it downplays all of the characters they put it in it =/
As for my point on Mulan’s character, she was meant to be one that wanted to be more than just “the perfect wife” and she overall didn’t want to simply be what your standard female would have been back then, so putting her in a little girl’s princess line totally defeats that, I feel.
Anyways, enough on the starting post, let the discussion commence ^^
^ I agree with the Mulan one. I didn’t look at it like that until just now. Huh. That’s a really good thought.
I still think Belle should be considered a princess. Even though she wasn’t a real princess until the last few minutes, she did live in a castle throughout pretty much the whole movie. You could say that Tiana wasn’t really a princess either, but I’d rank her with them.
(I just copied and pasted my last reply to that other thread, so…)
Don’t worry, I copy pasted a large amount of the text in my post =P
Belle is not the only princess in the like that married into their royal title though… Why don’t you consider Belle a princess?
Though Pocahontas isn’t royal, they pretend to get away with using her since she’s considered a princess of her tribe in the movie. In that case couldn’t Meg be in the club for marrying a god (even if he didn’t stay on Olympus at the end of the movie)? Oh, but Meg probably doesn’t do the culture rainbow which is the Disney Princess franchise much justice, alright then.
They’ve done a pretty crummy job at incorporating Tiana in. She has a great live show at the parks but Naveen doesn’t even meet and greet anymore, which the princes rarely do, but at least they dance with their princesses in half the shows. Tiana is still not in any show that showcases all the princesses and their princes. It’s disappointing.
The franchise as a whole doesn’t bother me, I’ve always liked the ladies being put together and I don’t mind them being marketed as a package. There are just a lot of obvious flaws with their system, but that’s nothing new.
According to Disney, these are the current Disney gals in the Disney Princess Franchise
*Snow White
*Cinderella
*Aurora
*Ariel
*Belle
*Jasmine
*Pocahontas
*Mulan
*Tiana
These are the girls on official merchandise, these are the girls at the Princess Faires at Disney Parks, and these are the girls featured on the Official Disney Princess Website.
There have been rumors of Merida and Rapunzel joining the lineup, but no official confirmation yet.

I think its harmless enough. Yeah, it does water down a lot of their personalities, and that’s annoying, but still. I think what you need to remember is a lot of these franchises (Like Disney Princesses, HSM, and such) aren’t meant for us. They’re meant for a younger age bracket, and even if we don’t like them, (which I really don’t) we have to remember that.
This is from my post in the other thread:
I love most of the princess movies, but yes, the merch is ridiculous. Here’s my view.
Princess:
-Belle(I think she is a princess. I always have, since Beast/Adam is a prince)
-Aurora
-Cinderella
-Snow White
-Faline
-Nala(hello? Anyone? Sad )
-Ariel
-Jasmine
-Tiana(?)
Not:
-Mulan(totally agree with you)
-Pocohantas(again, totally agree with you)
-Tink(when I was little she was in the line Rolling Eyes )
I don’t remember any others.
I love the movies except for SN and Cinderella. I like the dolls, and the line doesn’t hurt me. I’m cool with them, especially Belle and Jasmine. <3I really do think Belle is a princess, though.
Well she did kind of end up with a Prince.
Yeah, Belle’s a princess in my book too. I never even thought of questioning that one before now The Princesses don’t bother me at all. I think it’s a nice idea, packaging them together. I hope Rapunzel joins them, but I don’t know about Merida yet…

If I may ask, what did you not like about her? I found her to be one of Disney’s strongest female leads, and her relationship with Alladin was one of the better ones I’ve seen in a Disney film, the two of them were on opposite ends of the social class system that existed within that film’s universe, but they could still relate to the feeling of feeling trapped in their lives, and it felt very natural to me.
Yeah, I like Jasmine, too. She’s really strong, and I like that a lot about her. She’s not one of my favorite princesses (Belle, Mulan, Snow White, Tiana… they’re all first). But I don’t dislike her at all
My favourite of the “princesses” is Belle, as she was one of the two protagonists in my favourite film to be featured in that line. She, Esmerelda, Jane and Vixie are my favourite Disney female leads overall, to be honest. (Well there is also Kiara, but she was in a Disney sequel, a great one but still)
Kiara… what sequel is that? I’ve never seen it, or I don’t remember because I was too little.
The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, which in my personal opinion was far superior to the original, but that’s another topic altogether.
Oh my gosh I was gonna guess that! I remember I watched that movie so many times when I was little. But then my dad brought the tape player in to get fixed and forgot to take it out before he went, and so it was lost forever. I remember that song at the beginning… weird, I was just thinking about that today!

I don’t know there’s something about her,And plus it annoys me how a girl has to constantly be saved by a guy, unlike Tiana. And plus I think her voice is [spoil]whiney[/spoil].I guess I’m more of a tomboy sort of girl which is why Tiana is my favorite Disney Princess. She had to work for what she had, unlike Jasmine…

A fair few of the Disney princesses had life handed to them on a silver platter though, not just Jasmine. With that in mind she was still a very strong character in terms of personality even if she was in danger a lot.
True, but that’s what made Tiana diffrent, and Pocahantas didn’t live a life of luxury. But you know really Leon,I never really was a fan of the Disney Princess thing, too girly for me…
As I said in the first post though, I like/love some of the characters in the line, but the Disney Princess line downplays the characters greatly save for Ariel, Cinderella and Auora.
Belle is especially mislabelled as a girly sort of Disney Princess in my view, though Mulan is the the one who suffers the most from this line for the reasons I stated in my first post.
