I’m not sure if this is already a topic, so lock if you must.
I saw The Lion King on tour last night, and must I say it was ASTOUNDING! The costumes where the best I’ve ever seen, they where like walking sculptures! Strike that, they where walking sculptures! The set was the best two, even surpassing Wicked. And I saw Wicked on Broadway, so they could have had more stuff since they didn’t have to move around as much. Eventually, you completely forgot about the movie and only focus on the play, which is hard to make people do.
So if you ever get the chance, see The Lion King. It’s freakin AMAZING!
I’ve seen to The Lion King last Summer. I thought it was amazing, too. The costumes, the music, everything. My favorite song was Shadowland^^
And in March I saw Disney On Ice. I loved it and I found it funny that Stitch waas walways interrupting them There was also a Lion King scene, but the costumes were so different. Well, it’s impossible to ice skate with such big masks like in the musical, but those costumes looked really weird. Still it was cool. I hope I can go to another show some day.
I want to see The Lion King massively on the West End but as usual I can’t afford it right now.
I got a glimpse of what it would be like at DLRP when I went there which has made me want to go.
But I am a big West End freak as I am with Disney.
I’m Still yet to see The Lion King on The West End. I’m still waiting for London to swoop and grab The Little Mermaid, and Tarzan too cause I really want to see them…
I have been Lucky enough to catch Beauty and The Beast though, although not the broadway versions but the Broadway on Tour, and both performances were amazing using great CGI along with great lighting and very much true to the story with the addition of Ashman and Menken’s hidden gem (Human Again… It was placed in the movie after the success of it on broadway)
I’ve actually helped Direct an Amateur version of HSM with a youth theatre company and really enjoyed doing so… Only wish I got to taker part as either Troy or Ryan though!
I saw it on the West End quite a long time ago (I think when it first started) and I was blown away! Easily one of my fave musicals. Actually, nothing topped that until I saw Wicked…though I’d be curious to see if/any changes they’ve made since then. I think it’s been almost 10 years since I’ve seen it!
Hannahmation my Dad went and saw it last year, and said he was so in Awe with the production as a whole (Costume, Set etc…) he missed the action so wants to go back to see it!, just so he can focus on the acting. I on the other hand Just Want to see it…
I am also one intreigued with what Disney Cruise Liners present Toy Story: The Musical! It sounds intresting but also provokes the question “How?”
CMB The Live shows are extentions of the Animation magic in my opinion, and its intresting to see how producers and cinematographers can re-define and re-tell the magic they’re placed on the Silver Screen - Beauty and the Beast for example uses quite a bit of Animation in the productions I’ve seen:
At the Start of the storybook opening… Even Including the appearance of Disney’s second icon - Tink
-The Dinner Service during “Be Our Guest” right before the Dance Segment and resuklting Kickline
The Forest; for the Mob Song with very Les Mes styled marching behind the forset was animated to peel away giving the porjection and connotation of the Mob walking through the Forset.
points at the last sentence of my post here
Yes, I do go to another Disney On Ice show. Next Friday I’ll be seeing Finding Nemo On Ice in our capital Berlin. I am so excited, I hope I can get a plushie and a cup for souvenir
You’re saying you only like the movies because of the animation? 'Cause if you like them for the story and songs, they’re both there.
Better, in fact. I adore the movie, but the songs, compared to other Disney, is sliiightly lacking. Like Shadowland (beautiful, it still gives me shivers even when I just listen to it on my I-pod) The Madness of King Scar (Gives a great expansion of Scars personality, as he is going insane over the shadow of Mufasa that still covers him. And when he says “I’ll have…CUBS!” is one of my favorite parts because it’s both humorous and creepy, as you know a lioness has to be involved and Zira doesn’t exactly exist in this play…) Chow Down (Yes the hyenas get their own song) and most of all…drumroll… He Lives in You. And to tell you now, the sequel that stole this song for the opening number doesn’t give it justice. This was the first song I showed my opera-snob music major sister and she liked it so much she asked for the whole soundtrack to rip onto I-Tunes. It is gorgeous.
The animation, though I still love, doesn’t live up to the play. There is a great sense of sophistication, of culture, in this eye-popping play. The play stands alone from the movie, it’s not just some reenactment on stage.
I’ve never seen any live Disney Broadway shows, although I’d love to see Lion King or Little Mermaid. Lion King was in my town last summer, unfortunately I didnt get the chance to go.
The Lion King is really good. I was there in 2007 and I loved it, in fact I randomly quote some quotes from the musical (well, at least in the German version some quotes are different in the musical). If one who has ever seen the musical has the chance to see it, than this one should take the chance.
I saw The Little Mermaid on Broadway a long time ago, I think, and I found it so brought-to-life and real for me. I saw a show of Aladdin in Disneyland several times, and what it differs from the movie is that Abu isn’t present. I like the little side jokes the Genie adds to the show, especially the way he says [spoil]“I’m free! I’m going to Disneyland!” [/spoil] at the end. And such jokes to Jafar like:
[spoil]Ja-farmer in the dell…
You look great, really. No, you look better from Jafar.
You are now Sultan. Too bad your last name isn’t Peppershaker.[/spoil]
But I think he wears out the last joke by saying it all the time.
Usually, I enjoy the animations more, because, well, they’re the original, and nothing beats the originals.
Besides that, I haven’t seen much Disney live shows…I want to see The Lion King because the reviews that they were absolutely amazing convinced me very easily.
