DisneyMania- Good or Bad for Disney?

Is Disneymania ruining classic songs or promoting them?

  • Totally ruined. Leave these songs alone!
  • It’s a good idea, actually…and the celebrities did a good job capturing the mood of the songs!
  • Can’t beat the originals however, some are pretty cool for a remix

Disneymania is a series of CDs in which modern Disney stars sing Classic Disney (and once in a while, Pixar) songs and sing them in their own style. Here are some examples. Listen to a few before you vote!!! (No you don’t have to listen to all of them- there are a lot, I know)

Jump5’s version of Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride (Lilo and Stitch)

Jump5’s version of Beauty and the Beast

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey’s version of A Whole New World (Aladdin)

Demi Lovato’s version of That’s How You Know (Enchanted)

Selena Gomez’s version of Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmations)

Jump5’s version of Welcome (Brother Bear)

The Cheetah Girls’ version of I Won’t Say I’m in Love (Hercules

Hilary and Haylie Duff’s version of The Siamese Cat Song (Lady and the Tramp

Skye Sweetnam’s version of Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid)

Emily Osment & Mitchell Musso’s version of If I Didn’t Have You (Monsters, Inc.)

No Secrets’ version of Once Upon A Dream (Sleeping Beauty)

Raven Symone’s version of Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid)

Keke Palmer’s version of Reflection (Mulan)

Lucas Grabeel’s version of Go the Distance (Hercules)

Jordan Pruitt’s version of When She Loved Me (Toy Story 2)

Vanessa Hudgen’s version of Colors of the Wind

Jonas Brothers’ version of I Wanna Be Like You (The Jungle Book)

Jonas Brothers’ version of Yo Ho a Pirate’s Life for Me (Pirates of the Carribean)

Ashley Tisdale’s version of Someday my Prince Will Come (Snow White)

Cheetah Girls’ version of If I Never Knew You (Pocahantas)

Jesse McCartney’s version of I’ll Try (Return to Neverland)

B5’s version of Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf (Three Little Pigs)

Aaron Carter’s version of I Just Can’t Wait to Be King (The Lion King)
(you should know that the reason why the lyrics are different is because this is the original script)

Ashley Tisdale’s version of Kiss the Girl (The Little Mermaid)

T-Squad’s version of Second Star to the Right (Peter Pan)

Kathe Voegele’s version of When You Wish Upon a Star (Pinnochio)

Emily Osment’s version of Once Upon a Dream (Sleeping Beauty)

Disney Channel Stars sing all together in A Dream is a Wish (Cinderella)
(THIS ONE IS SO GOOD! Disney’s inspirational side)

[I highly recommend the Jump5 versions and the last one.]

What do you think of Disneymania? Song promoters or song ruiners?

Personally, I’ve never really cared for the “Disney Channel Stars”… they always got on my nerves, for some reason. But Jump5 has always been one of my faves, anyways, and I’ve LOVED their version of “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” since I heard it several years ago. I probably would never purchase the CD, but it is always good to have remakes done; so in a sense I am not opposed to Disneymania at all. Great songs, that’s for sure!

I’ve always wanted to record my own version of Find Yourself by Brad Paisley, but I’m too nervous to get myself on piano and sing to music with a camera rolling. :unamused:

Honestly, the only cover on that list that I can tolerate is “Go the Distance” by Lucas Grabeel, who has a surprisingly wonderful voice.

Their okay… I still prefer the originals though.

I own Tisdale’s Version of Kiss the Girl and really like it

Lucas Gabriel’s Go the DIstance is Spectacular… Its got the same meaning… but gives it a nice Muscial and Pop Twist…

Emily Osmenet’s Version of One Upon a Dream features on the Sleeping Beauty Blu Ray and isn’t all that bad

Corbin’s Two Worlds isn’t up to the quality of Phil Collin’s but its got something that keeps me entertained

Some are good, but I always say that you can’t beat the originals.

Yeah I dont go for all these remakes of the classic Disney songs, mostly by singers I dont even like anyway. I’ve only heard a few of them, but I havent been into them. I dont usually go for covers anyway. I almost always prefer the original

Personally, for me, it depends. I like Go The Distance and Two Worlds, and Kiss the Girl is just about the only thing about Ashley Tisdale I actually like. Still, the JoBros Poor Unfortuante Souls sucked, and Miley Cyrus just about KILLED Part of Your World. And don’t get me started on the Cheetah Girls version of I Won’t Say I’m in Love :shake:

I think I like them the most if they stay mostly true to the origonal song (Lucas Grabeel sounds like he’s just singing Karoake) so that the don’t add crappy pop styles.

I must say that I don’t mind a bit of Disneymania every now and then…as longs as the singers do the original songs a little justice. I always enjoyed the Jump5 remixes, especially Beauty and the Beast (sure the original was soft and romantic and their version was energetic, but you get the feeling like the positive energy they have means they’re celebrating the movie’s magic, unlike some other remixes that only seem to mock.)

But I honestly love Disneymania a lot less than I used to, having listened the originals, many many of the originals again. I think Disneymania kinda distracts audiences from the original beauty of the original songs. Some remixes were impressive and catchy. Others were actually boooorrrrrriiinnnng to tell the truth, in comparison the originals. The boring remixes are the ones that take a Classic song that was short and marvelous in its simple way and lengthens it the the proper “rock music length”, aka dragging it. Take for example the remixes of Reflection. The original was great, and gives off such honest emotion in so little, breif time and is enough. The remixes seem to think that’s not enough, and draaaaaaags it.

And some others just weren’t nice to the originals at all. Right now I’m so-so about it. Right now I prefer the originals all the time, having opened my eyes (or rather, ears) to what the originals were like.

The question that worries me is, are the stars truly singing it because they enjoyed the original and want to try it (like karoke except they’re sharing it officially) or do they just somehow think they can improve them? That’s what confuses me.

I wonder if the Disney Channel stars respect Classic Disney or even know what it’s all about…

I never cared that much for those new music videos that were always made for Disney’s animated classics on DVD. The one of “A Whole New World” for Aladdin was alright, but nothing ever beats the original version from Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. So as you can probably guess, I care more about classic Disney animation than the pop stars on Disney Channel.
