Surprised I haven’t seen a thread on this yet. Disney’s newest label is releasing its first feature on Earth Day simply called…EARTH. I’m not sure how many of you have seen the trailer or are fans of the series “Planet Earth” but WOW it looks amazing!
The Tones of James Earl Jones as Narrator to the Movie is what has me excited!
Mufassa telling us the Story of Earth, Gives me tingles just thinking about it! It’ll be like him telling both Simba and Us about the Stars and the Kings of the Past.
I’m pretty exicted for this! I guess. If you would like information on future Disney Nature Films then go to the website. Sorry, I don’t know how to make a link.
This movie is in my top-ten list on the Most Anticipated Movies of 2009 thread I started! I always loved nature documentaries, and they look so much more awesome on the big screen.
The use of the super-happy tune of Hoppipolla towards the end of the trailer (some of you may recognise it from Slumdog’s) was a big plus!
On a side note, I watched the first few episodes of the award-winning BBC documentary Planet Earth narrated by Sir David Attenborough (who I refer to as the old guy who keeps magically turning up on the remotest places on Earth ), and I can’t help but notice that some of the footage was reused in the Earth trailer. Could this be an abridged version of Planet Earth on the big screen? This could be a good or a bad thing, depending on whether you want to pay to see another version of Planet Earth again, except in the cinemas.
thedriveintheatre With the Use of the BBC/Attenborough’s footage from Planet Earth, I do believe that I read somewhere that BBC producers are aiding with the DisneyNature Production…
It could be off the DisneyNature Press Release… Which I can’t find right now…
I saw this in the Disney Annual Report and it certainly looks interesting. Apparently Disney used to make nature specials like this decades ago (although I think they may have been TV shows, but dont quote me on that) because…Walt liked nature and wanted to educate people, I guess. I dont really remember the exact reason.
I’m definitely going to see this! I enjoy documentaries of any sort and this looks really good. And Captain Pan, I too am really excited about James Earl Jones being the narrator!
lennonluvr9: You’re right. Disney used to create‘True-Life Adventures’, a series of what were loosely referred to as documentaries, set in habitats from the Sonoran Desert to the Canadian tundra. So I find it interesting that Disney is bringing back nature documentaries… kind of like they are bringing back 2D animation.
thedriveintheatre: You’re not too far off! The movie was filmed in conjunction with Planet Earth (both the series and the movie are shot by the same guys) so it does contain some of the same scenes as “Planet Earth” but I think a majority of it is never before scene footage Plus I like the storyline of following 3 wildlife families through Africa, the arctic and the ocean - mostly the arctic because I have a thing for polar bears
Captain Pan: You’re SO right about James Earl Jones! Documentaries always need a very powerful narrator and I can’t think of anybody more appropriate for this than him.
If not James Earl Jones, then Morgan Freeman. To quote Family Guy “People have always liked the sound of my voice” And I do. I think he narrated that March of the Penguins movie which i never saw.
Freeman did narrate March of the Penguins - I remember that movie, it was so cute! But I just like the idea of James Earl Jones aka Mufasa narrating earth. It just seems appropriate to me
Oh yeah! Only one month away! I hope it comes out Down Under! Anyone else stoked for this ‘supreme epicness’ event, or am I pathetic for looking forward to a feature-length documentary?
I have to admit, I used to scoff at documentaries, but I have yet to be disappointed by any! Besides that, I was obsessed with the Planet Earth series so that’s extra reason to look forward to this.
I mentioned that the movie was being released on Earth Day…I just read on MSN that for every person that goes to see the movie on opening week, the filmmakers are going to plant a tree. Such a great way to not only promote the movie but to celebrate Earth Day and help the planet…just by watching a movie!
In the spirit of MotherNature, I’m going to see this movie today (among other Earth Day activities anyway)…so excited!! My ticket also represents one of the 500,000 trees that Disney’s already planting in honor of the movie/Earth Day. I hope that they’ll continue to do this when the movie rolls out in other countries too. It’s such a good promotion and it’s totally working, don’t you think?
