Do Marlin and Dory get married?

I’ve always wondered about if Marlin and Dory got married after their adventure, because at the end before Nemo goes to school, he says “See you at home, Dory!” (or something to that effect). I always took that to mean that Dory was Nemo’s new step-mom, but maybe it’s just my overactive imagination taking over again. What do you guys think?

That’s a matter of opinion.

While I don’t think they are (as big a Dory/Marlin geek as I am, I acknowledge there wasn’t romantic intention with these two characters in the film), it’s left sort of vague when you think about it. All we see as an audience is they apparently live in close proximity. When the sharks escort Dory back to Marlin, it’s referred to as taking her home.

So I suppose you can interpret it as you wish.

I can’t see the two of them in a proper relationship like that, but that’s just my personal opinion. I can see how their relationship could be interpreted as something more, but it’s not something that I think happens after the movie.

Marlin and Dory are a completely different species of fish, so don’t you think that would be a little… erm… strange if they “got married”…?

Like Castoro Chiaro said, I think it’s a matter of interpretation; and that they were probably just going to be living in the same area from then on… or, something like that.

Even if she lived with them, it would probably be more for her safety’s sake; Marlin knows she’ll probably be rather helpless on her own, so he takes her in. Maybe she’s seen as more of a “sister” to Nemo…?

But that’s just opinion, obviously.

little chef

Also Dory can’t live inside the anemone anyway…

But I don’t believe they get ‘married’, I’m not even sure that any fish would get married, presumedly they don’t have the same religious beliefs as people?

Heheh, no. :-\

NOOOOO!!! :open_mouth:

N…O…NO.

Man the world would collapse if they did!!
[breathes slowly] Okay Alex breathe in and out…there…relax.

Okay maybe not but it could…

They just don’t go together at all…i mean Nemo and Marlin are great but i can’t see Dory becoming the extra parent. She is a great friend but i think she wouldn’t make as good of a mom.

I agree with u. Unlike most people here I actually like the whole Marlin/Dory thing. I think its probably because Enchanted is one of my favorite movie’s and Marlin and Dory remind me of Robert and Giselle.

Giselle is inocent and somewhat insane , as is Dory. They also have other various quirky personality traits.

Robert is serious and apprehensive , not letting morgan branch out (as marlin doesn’t let nemo branch out) because of his bad romantic experiances (and marlin won’t let nemo do many things because of what happened to coral).

As a couple Robert and Giselle get along (hahah bad pun coming here) swimmingly, so why not Marlin and Dory.

No they didn’t get married at the end of the movie, but who’s to say they can’t.

Regardless of species. Honestly Dory doesn’t HAVE to live with them to be part of the family, and even if they didn’t get married or persue a romantic relationship, Dory could still be somewhat of a mother to nemo.

Nemo appears to take a liking to Dory at the end of the movie, and I can imagine Dory playing games with Nemo, watching him, maybe helphing him with problems on occasion (after all Dory’s mind does work like a childs , but can be mature when the sitiuation calls for it).

Thats just my opinion…

I know a lot of people don’t agree with it, but I’m just voicing what I think. I know it wasn’t supposed to be like that in the movie, but because of my own personal love for the movie Enchanted, I couldn’t help but make the connection.

Wow, it’s still a bit disheartening to see how much people hate this pairing…anyhow, that’s not what I wanted to post about.

That was about my thinking. Even Coral is never officially referred to as Marlin’s “wife”, but his “mate”. So I think it’s more like a lifelong partnership, without the weddings and fanfare. Which is kind of sweet, when you think about it.

You’re probably right. I’m on the fence about Dory’s parenting skills. On one hand, she’s very compassionate and loving, which are excellent qualities for a mother. While the fandom seems largely convinced Dory is completely incapable of acting in a mature role, I choose to believe she’s a lot wiser than we give her credit for. Not in a sagely sort of way, but a more subtle emotional way.

Of course, Dory is a bit of a ditz and about as attentive as a hyperactive squirrel, so it is a bit difficult to imagine her in a guardianship role. She did prove when she forced information out of the crab she’s willing to do whatever it takes for people she cares for, so maybe that invalidates her negative qualities.

shrug

I’m easy. Lifelong friends or a couple, either’s fine with me.

Oh yes, and Dory and Marlin are DEFINITELY like Robert and Giselle. After seeing Enchanted, that comparison really clicked with me.

I never thought there was anything romantic going on between Marlin and Dory. I just cant see it. (I will admit I was half expecting Dory to say “I look at you and I…I’m in love!” the first time I saw it, but not because I wanted them to hook up, it’s mostly just a joke of mine). And I wouldnt want them to really.

Given the difference in the state of mind between Marlin & Dory I dont think it would work. Plus I think Marlin still has strong feelings for Coral and I dont think he was at the point where he would want to find a new mate. I’m sure Dory just remains a family friend, that Marlin is close to, but I dont think he’ll ever have romantic feelings for her. I dont see Dory having romantic feelings for him either, cuz that aspect just wasnt there.

He was almost like a surrogate parent for Dory anyway. He does kinda have to watch out for her at times, and I dont see romance stemming from that kind of relationship.

You know something? I’m so glad you said that. It’s sort of upsetting to see everyone’s problem with this pairing is Dory…kinda makes me think, “So, what, you think she’ll be like that forever and doesn’t deserve a shot at love?”

But those are definitely good arguments against it. It’s sort of for those reasons–among others–I can take these two both as friends or together. Marlin did really love Coral, and a loss of that magnitude, especially when he was powerless to save her, would probably turn him off the idea of love entirely. Pretty harsh.

…although, I think it’s Dory and Marlin’s vast differences that make this pairing so endlessly amusing to me :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe an adopted daughter of Marlin’s. But not wife. Nothing against Dory, Marlin and her just didn’t have that kind of relationship, and I don’t think it would change.

Remember that Marlin is still pretty shaken up by his bereavement. Question is, does she even move to the corals with Marlin/Nemo? Heh, I think it’s a matter of personal interpretation…

I couldn’t really see the idea of Marlin being married to Dory (this quirky, oddball fish that always forgets things) working out. I can only see them as staying close friends after the film and doing stuff with Nemo. I actually thought Dory fit in better with the yellow fish from the Tank Gang that was obsessed with bubbles.

I think that would be a little… no really strange. I just can’t see them getting married. Besides, they’re two different breeds of fish. That wouldn’t work out right.

I always saw them as just great/best friends at the end of the movie, personally. That’s about as far as I’d want it to go, as well.

I don’t think so, no. It just doesn’t…quite seem right, I suppose. Two completely different personality types. They probably are all (Marlin, Dory and Nemo) a family in a sense though.

Oh, and about the two different species thing…I don’t think that would be the biggest obstacle in a Pixar film - remember how in A Bug’s Life, Gypsy (a gypsy moth) and Manny (a praying mantis) were married?

Haha

In my opinion, it would feel a little weird. It’s an interesting idea, but I think that Dory would best remain a dearly beloved family friend. I think Marlin would hold on to the memory of Coral

Hmm…now that I think of it, not really. :stuck_out_tongue: I couldn’t see it. I could see Dory and Marlin being really good friends, but never married. Just imagine what the kids would look like! :open_mouth:

I don’t think fish marry. Or do they???
