I mean Pixar recent movies ain’t funny any more, the last Pixar movie i found funny was Finding Nemo.

Any opinons on this topic?

Sort of yes and no. It depends on your individual sense of humour- some people may have found Ratatouille and Cars and Pixar’s other later films very funny as well as their earlier ones. Pixar’s sense of humour is very different to that of other companies that make ‘kid’s filmes’, but it also varies between their own films, for example, Ratatouille contained a lot more physical humour than previous Pixar productions.

So, I don’t think Pixar films should contain more humour really- they’re such experts at contrasting pathos and ethos- but I hope they continue to vary the types of humour they use.

Unless you are purposefully making a comedy, comedy should appear at the appropriate time when it’s natural and not forced. This is what is achieved in all good filmmaking. Some characters may allow for more natural comedy than others. Dory was really quite forgetful and that allowed natural comedy to occur, not forced.

So the answer to your question, only if the story calls for it.

I think they’re fine with their own brand of funny. Extremely funny things, I find, wear off over time. But cute simple things they put in always make me smile even after watching them a thousand times over. Thus, I am content. If they try to be too funny it’ll show and make it stupid, IMO.

Well personally, I think Pixar films have not lost their funny side. I had a laugh with ever Pixar film ever made. So I think they don’t need to be funnier because they are really hilariously enjoyable as of now. You know how the old saying goes.

“If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.”

It depends on what you find funny. And sometimes it has to grow on you. Like with the Incredibles, I didnt find it very funny when I first saw it, but now I can pick out quite a few quotes from that movie that i’ll laugh at. They dont have to be laugh out loud hilarious all the time to be good either, nor is that always the most important thing. Monsters Inc is still the one I feel to be the funniest, but obviously it’s not my favorite. But they all have a good mix of seriousness and heart/comedy. There are plenty of funny things I can find in all their movies that I’ve seen. So to come to my point, no, I dont think they need to be funnier.

I think they’re funny enough. I mean, you get some of those other kids movies, that are trying too hard to be funny, and it really shows. It’s like the trick we learned in drama about improv, Don’t go for the joke, you’ll end up with no where to go plot-wise. The jokes will come in on their own. Hopefully that makes sense to everyone. ;D

“MORE FUNNIER!!!”

LOL is RIGHT!

I’d rather have a film that was true to character and strong than some yuk-fest. Everyone is sick of inside jokes–have been for 10 years. Leave those to dreamworks–they date themselves.

Pixar films are funny as hell, and have a sense of wonder no other studio–live action or animation–can come close to.

“more funnier.” I’m still laughing at THAT!

Tired of inside jokes? No way!
How could we get tired of the Pizza Planet truck or A113?
I think you mean fart jokes…

You’ve got to be kidding. Pixar film aren’t meant to be funny, they are meant to be great animated films that anyone can love. Of course, there are gonna be some people who won’t appreciate it that way, and that’s okay. If you want a funny movie, you should see the DreamWorks films, which are meant to be funny.

Oh, I’m pretty much tired of it. xD jk
The Pizza Planet has become a sort of Pixar tradition, but if they want to leave it out (or have to leave it out), they will.

Nobody could get tired of A113. Sorry, had to.

A113- Pixar films are mean’t to be funny, just not stupid funny.

Pixar movies are funny enough and so they don’t need to make them funnier, at least in my opinion. They’re meant to tell us great stories, to show us loveable characters, etc. As I said, Pixar movies are funny enough and if they spend too much time for jokes, it wouldn’t be a good movie. What is a movie without a great story, but too much jokes? Don’t get me wrong, I like comedies. But if I watch a movie, I want a great story, nothing pointless.

I get a big kick out of PIXAR films, and they don’t even have to try hard.

Example: In ‘Ratatouille,’ when Remy is running in the overhead of the apartment, and we see the man and woman struggling. As the gun goes off, and they look into each other’s eyes, they suddenly blanche, and just embrace. I just laughed out loud at that part. Mainly, because it was a great ‘ribbing’ at those scenes all the time. The guy and woman are angry, and slowly, get ‘turned on.’

PIXAR also succeeds with physical comedy, not with usualy gross-out/potty humor. The physicality of Linguini’s performance is one thing that worked so well. I still love Linguini’s reaction pulling open his shirt, and seeing the rat bites. He’s trying to express his feelings, but all he can do is gasp and yell. I laugh every time. His third reaction where he wriggles his arms and body just makes it even funnier.

I’m also of the glad fact that PIXAR does not have to usually fall back with pop-culture jokes. To me, only they can get away with it and make it work. What they did in ‘Toy Story 2’ still amuses me. Rex’s ‘Jurassic Park’ and Buzz’s ‘Vader/Luke’ confrontation just do better than stuff like Shrek the Third’s ‘Rapunzel, let down thine golden extensions.’ UGH!

I’m really looking forward to ‘Wall-E,’ as it seems he’ll be very much giving us physical comedy. Even the little vignettes like him encountering a hula-hoop or a vacuum cleaner have all been just so much fun to watch.

Yeah i gotta agree with you there. WALL-E looks like it will be very amusing in places. Of course I cant obviously judge how laugh out loud funny it is as I havent seen or heard much of it outside of some trailers and plot summaries.

Pixar films don’t need to be “more funnier.” They’re not about jokes. They’re about character, and the humour comes out of watching how characters we can identify with deal with each other and situations they’re thrown into. This is far more lasting than a few fast yuks, and much, MUCH harder to achieve. Pixar excels in this.

How are PIXAR films not funny? Ratatouille had moments I laughed at over and over.

Exactly, Netbug009! Ratatouille was hilarious! 8D

Then there’s WALL-E. Obviously it’s not out yet, but come on, have you seen the trailer? XD

“more funnier”? I’m sorry, that just irritates me.

Pixar films always have great comedy. I’ve never been let down once.

xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD YES! 8D    8D
