Itās to bad that the animation industry is so incestuous. I always wonder what kind of creative differences do the directors have with the powers that be when they are replaced. But nobody every talks about these kinds of things since people fear losing their jobs or getting a bad reputation.
theoutsider: It could be that the length of time required to develop a non-sequel animated film leads to personnel changes. Sometimes creative folks gravitate toward the projects that most excite them, jumping at new opportunities as they arise. Or, as you mentioned, there is the āartistic differencesā thing when creativity clashes with management goals. It all seems to go with the Hollywood territoryābusiness as usual. Sometimes, commenters on The Animation Guild Blog or Cartoon Brew shed some light, but theyāre best taken with a grain of saltāthereās a lot of nasty sniping there, especially at Cartoon Brew now that TAG Blog suspended anonymous posting. Even so, both sites offer a chance to find out what happened with Mark Dindal on Me and My Shadow, among other people and animated projects.
Iām pretty stoaked for this actually. The whole Traditional/CGI mixture sounds very interesting. I canāt wait to hear more info of this.
This film was recently removed from Dreamworksā upcoming slate.

Shadow appears to be back into the development phase, which means a ton of talented animators are going to be laid off. I just hope Rise of the Guardians underperforming didnāt inspire these upcoming layoffs.

But given that it was pushed back with the Mr Peabody movie taking itās release slot in the schedule has me concerned.
I hope this is not an indication that it may end up sharing the same fate as Newtā¦
^Thatās exactly what Iām scared of. It would be such a shame because this is one of the only recent DW films (apart from HTTYD2) that Iāve really been looking forward to.
I think my interest in DreamWorks may be waning as time goes on.
My number one favorite DW franchise seems to be stuffed in a forgotten storage locker, probably next to the room where the janitor keeps his cleaning supplies.

Megamind and the Croods are ones I enjoy.
Kung Fu Panda, I find amusing, but not a serious fan.
Shrek and Madgascar, which seem to be the main focus of DreamWorks, just donāt interest me.
I avoided seeing Mr Peabody because Iāve grown tired of tv shows/books/comics/computer games being adapted for movies.
Judging from this analysis, it seems Iām better off with Dreamworkās one-shot movies, since the ones that get sequels and spinoffs donāt really engage me (HtTYD excepted of course!).
Not that Iāll say no to sequels of the movies I listed in this post if they should happen to make someā¦
I was actually wondering what this siteās general consensus on Mr. Peabody was. I am curious to see it, even if Iāve only seen a few episodes of the source material quite a few years ago.

I used to be excited about this movie. At the time when it was announced, DreamWorks movies were increasing in quality. But in recent times, they havenāt been appealing to me outside of a few movies. I havenāt even bothered to check out the trailer for Home. I wouldnāt be surprised if this interesting idea ends up being something more like Turbo or Megamind, and less like How to Train Your Dragon.
I really hope this comes out. It looks like a lot of fun, and if it was released in the middle of Pixarās creativity slump thatād be absolutely fantastic.

According to the DreamWorks wikia, the movie is getting a rewrite and production has been halted until that is complete.
I guess ithe original script was deemed unsatisfactory and itās getting redone for some reason.
It is currently classified as in development at this stage.
A release date has not been specified, so depending on how much work has been done since the last status update (2013), assuming a ballpark figure of four years production time, Iād estimate release date will be 2017.
According to the article, the Peabody and Sherman movie took itās place in the release schedule (March 14 2014).
I donāt know about other peoples opinions, but Iād rather have had this movie instead of that one.
I hope itās true that itās still in development. I was worried Dreamworksā financial troubles might have killed off the film.
^Hopefully this will be the movie that brings them back from the brink.
