Dreamworks Reveals Schedule Thru '14

Once again I can’t call myself the Dreamworks guy if I didn’t tell you Dreamworks stuff. Here’s the current production slate through the year 2014.

No mention of the GDT films? I’m disappointed. I was really looking forward to Trollhunters and Alma. Especially the latter. But I guess we might be seeing those in the back half of the decade if we end up seeing them at all.

The one I’m least interested in is Madagascar 3. The one I’m most curious about (not excited just wondering WTH is this) is Turbo.

For the record here’s the schedule for those who didn’t want to read all of that.

* Kung Fu Panda 2 for May 26, 2011
* Puss In Boots for November 4, 2011
* Madagascar 3 for June 8, 2012
* Rise of the Guardians for November 21, 2012
* The Croods for March 1, 2013
* Turbo for June 7, 2013
* Me and My Shadow for November 8, 2013
* Mr. Peabody & Sherman for March 21, 2014
* How to Train Your Dragon 2 for June 20, 2014

Thoughts?

Okay…Turbo just sounds stupid. But I’m really excited for The Croods and Me and My Shadow.

It seems weird that they announced all those other films, and yet when they confirm which ones are coming when, one comes completely out of nowhere. You’d think they would have mentioned this Turbo movie sooner.

Wow, I didn’t know Mark Dindal is at Dreamworks now. Hey left Disney and so did the HTTYD directors. Interesting.

Is it strange of me to be looking forward to the sequels more than the original properties? Part of me is annoyed because the original films are too geared towards ‘child-friendly’ plots, like childhood guardians, family dynamics (The Croods really sounds like Ice Age but with humans), and a pet gone rogue… (although Robert sounds like an interesting voice actor to me). A lot of the storylines are very domestic and pedestrian in nature. Compare this with ‘high-concept’ fare like LOTG (a world filled with owls fighting wars) or Ratatouille (a mouse defies the odds to become a chef), and these plots begin to sound very cheesy and stale.

‘Me and My Shadow’ is the only one to catch my interest because of the 3D/2D combination and the surreal premise. Turbo… just sounds weird. I’d love to see how they pull that one off.

Otherwise, it’s HTTYD 2 for me, followed by KFP 2 and Puss in Boots.

Love the really long disclaimer about ‘forward-looking statements’! :mrgreen:

The Croods could turn to be a well done film, after all Chris Sanders is directing it,

Mr. Peabody & Sherman is the only one that looks promising, the lion king director is behind it

the other projects could sound interesting, but most of their directors, writers and producers have done crap films in the past

I think DreamWorks has been planning a little far ahead lately. And most of these films seem kind of stupid to me. Only 2 or 3 of them look really great.

It seems like “quanity over quality”. I hope that that’s not the case. There will be flops out of all those, but hopefully there are a few killer ones.

The Croods, HTTYD2 and Me and my Shadow sound interesting, at least, but Turbo sounds… weird. I mean honestly, a movie about a snail? Dude, what.

Hmm, some sound good, some sound not so good; however, I don’t get what the pressure is to release so many films? Whats wrong making with 1 a year? Then you can make a big deal out of it :slight_smile:

the snail character could work, but the plot is repetitive and stupid, how many times have we seen, heard similar stories like that???

KFP: Po wasn’t anything and at the end he became the best kung fu warrior (this worked)
Turbo: the snail is anything and at the end it will be the fastest snail (???)

I also got the plot for the sequel:

Turbo 2: The World Shell Prix - The Race to the Championship

the little snail hero who saved the ditch and won the annual tournament will travel around the world to compete against the fatest snails in the world

Ew, a snail? Those things gross me out.

Not sure about any of these, never really liked Dreamworks to be quite honest but I won’t judge a book by its cover. Perhaps when there is more info we can get a better idea. Turbo is probably the worst here though. A snail put into The Flash origin story? Not sure if you can go anywhere with that but there will be sequels, Turbo 2: Escargot express. Turbo 3: Snail’s pace, and so on.

Hurr hurr hurr, I love all your sequel titles for Turbo you guys. 8D

Yeah…I still think they look way too far into the future. Still optimistic about some of these. Only the sequels really intrigue me.

people said the same about a RAT film, but the difference is that Pixar was behind that masterpiesce story

I’ve never had issues with rats, I do have issues with snails. Big issues.

I mentioned it because Rats are more hated worldwide than snails, but I do recognize that I don’t really like rats, but I loved Ratatouille, I mean that my hate for rats didn’t have to do with my love for Ratatouille

Guys, please don’t double/triple-quote. Simply quote the response and not the ones before. :wink:

sometimes it is necessary to remind someone what we were taking about, but I’ll try ;-p
