E3 '09

E3, what many consider to be the biggest event of the year in gaming, has begun. The big three, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have finished with their press conferences, and it was a pretty exciting year. Anyone been checking in on all the latest developments going on? I had a pretty decent wall of text written up, but it got erased, so I’m just gonna list things I really liked, mainly form the Nintendo conference…

Nintendo - Big fan. Most of my gamaing is done on Nintendo consoles.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 announced, and Yoshi is in. Awesome.

Metroid: Other M announced. A collaboration between Nintendo and Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden). A new approach to the series, it plays like a third person shooter/2D shooter it appears. Slighlty edgier, more mature take. Gaemplay seems to be a mix of the original series, and Prime gameplay. Looks insane, possibly the game I am most exicted for.

Golden Sun DS announced. Huge for me. I loved the first two games, and I’ve been waiting for a new one for a long time.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii announced. A port/remake of the DS hit for Wii. Features about 80 levels of classic Super Mario Style play, a bunch of new power-ups and levesl. Oh, and four player, drop in and out co-op for the game. Yeah, that’s awesome.

Trailer for Final Fantasy: Th Crystal Bearers shown. Not a Final Fantasy fan, but the game looks cool. Might check it out due to a lack of RPGs on the Wii.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days English trailer shown. Cool to see some Kingdom Hearts representation, but nothing new as I have known about this game since it was first announced. Didn’t watch the trailer as I want to be completely spoiler free.

WiiMotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort. WiiMotionPlus just looks awesome, I can’t wait to see it used in other games. Maybe we’ll finally get that lightsaber game we’ve been waiting for.

A bunch of games were listed, but not shown. Sin and Punisment 2 looks amazing form the trailer I saw. A new exclusive Wii RPG is coming out that also looks very cool.

Miyamoto (creator of Mario and Zelda, plus a bunch of other awesome games) hints at the next Zelda for Wii. He had a picture of the new Link, which is the most adult and mature version of the character seen so far. Also said that WiiMotionPlus will definitely be used, and the game may only be playable with WiiMotionPlus. Cool. Very Cool.

Sony
Final Fantasy XIV announced. Online MMO. Again, don’t play Final Fantasy, but this was a huge announcement. Nice Job, Sony.

The Last Guardian announced. The last installment of the Team Ico trilogy including Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Don’t play this franchise either, but it’s yet another huge reveal.

Sony dispalys their motion controller. Looks cool, but it’s pretty much already what the Wii does, and this was only a prototype with no kind of hint given as to when it would come out.

New PSP announced. Not to big for me, as I jsut bought a PSP, so I won’t be getting a new one. Metal Gear Solid game announced for PSP as well.

I’m to lazy to do the rest, plus I didn’t get to see the Microsoft conference.
If anyone else would like to do a write-up on Sony or Microsoft, please feel free, or you could even add to by Nintendo list.

Really? That is so freakin’ awesome. One of my favourite games EVER getting a sequel and I don’t even have to wait for the next Nintendo console to come out. It looks so good. WOOOO! I hope they have new orchestrated music, too.

I already have this game for DS, but hooray!

I am not entriely sure, but it sounds like this may be a new game, maybe a sequel, based on the New Super Mario Bros.gameplay. Again, this is just what I think.

I think the main draw is that the whole game, as in the typical 1 player mode, can now be played with up to four people.

Haha, I’ve been following E3 since coverage started pouring in.

You forgot to mention that Mr. M verified that a Pikmin 3 is in the works.

Oh, and I can’t wait until SMG2. Best Nextgen game out there besides Smash Bros. Brawl.

Hmm, I must have missed that Pikimin 3 talk. I remember hearing it was coming last year. I was actually surprised there was no Pikimin 3, but guess I was wrong. Now if only we could have gotten Kid Icarus.

Golden Sun DS and Final Fatasy XIV announced and a hint for a new Zelda game for the Wii? I think I’m going to faint, even though I don’t like the idea about another FF being an online game. What happened to the online-free FFs like the ones from the PlayStation One era? But it’s great to know there will be another GS game

I WILL get go E3 at some point. I wish there was more PC news there though.

I enjoyed what this year’s E3 had to offer…And although I’d love to see some sort of footage for the next Zelda game, just knowing that they’re hard at work with it makes me content.

DEFINITELY looking forward to Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach. Big fan here. :stuck_out_tongue:

And of course, I giggled like a schoolgirl when I saw the Mario Galaxy 2 video. Yoshi FTW!

I’ve really only been watching Nintendo. NSMB Wii looks good, but the graphics look a lot like the DS one. Mario Galaxy 2 looks exactly the same as the old one besides Yoshi. The new Metroid looks excellent. But being a big fan of the first Professor Layton game the thing I’m really excited about is the sequel coming to America.

And that Wii Vitality Censor thing looks to be amongst one of Nintendo’s biggest peripheral bombs yet. I can’t see many games using that.

E3 had a lot of good titles this year.

For Xbox 360, I’m definitely interested in Alan Wake and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

For Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M and No More Heroes 2.

For PS3, I want Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Demon’s Souls and MAG.

As for multiplatform games… Assassins Creed 2 and Bioshock 2.

With that said, I probably missed a lot of games… But point is, I’ll probably go broke with buying all these games… lol

I missed watching Day 1 unfortunately, but am catching Day 2.
Previews for Bioshock 2 look amazing. Dang I can’t wait for that…

I’m buying a PS3 for this game, Famito Ueda is the Miyazaki of videogames, every single one is a gorgeous adventure to a mystical word.

Here’s the HD trailer:

I want a rat/bird/dragon for my own ;_;

Miyamoto said the SMG 2 will feature at least 95%, completely new content, and will have about the same amount of content, which means around 20 levels. I’m expecting some new suits or flowers to be in, plus all the new levels. I was also pretty impressed iwth the graphics upgrade, did you see that grass? Sure, it’ll play the same, but that’s what I want. Why fix what is already awesome?

Also, bit of more cool stuff. Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, the new game coming out on DS will have some kind of multiplayer, whether it’s co-op or the battle mode from Phantom Hourglass remains to be seen.

A new Battlefront is coming out of PSP and DS. It’ll feature land battles where you can get in ships, and then fy into space and do space battles. Sounds cool, but I heard the load time between land and space, wasn’t that good. I would have preffered a console Battlefront 3, but oh well.

Another one? :open_mouth: You know, I always wanted to get a PSP… maybe now’s the right time… although hardware makers always want you to think now’s the best time to get their appliance before springing a newer version a few months down the road…

Exactly. Super Mario Galaxy was consistently rated the top video game of 2008 for Nintendo Wii, and possibly even out of all consoles, so if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. OMG I can’t waaait.

Oh this new Metal Gear Solid for PSP won’t be like the previous MGS games on PSP.
I’m pretty sure this new one will act almost like a sequel to MGS3, as it takes place after those events, and many years before the events of MGS4.
I also heard that there will be tons of work put into this game, where you will expect an awesome story, and much of the team who were responsible for last year’s epic final chapter in Solid Snake’s story (MGS4), will be working on this one.

So I’m pretty sure with all that information, this new Metal Gear Solid game for the PSP will possibly be the true MGS experience for the PSP.

Enough chatter from me, here’s the trailer:

I’m gonna jump on the whole trailer bandwagon, and start posting some links.

The New Metorid Game. Honestly, the best trailer I have seen at this E3.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

I actually wasn’t really a fan of the first one. I had fun but after beating the main game and having to go through the comet missions to get 120 stars I found it very tedious. And I often feel like games that reuse their engines from sequel to sequel are really same-ish, so I’m a bit worried about this feeling too much like the old one, even with new stages. And besides the grass I don’t see much improvement with the graphics. They could’ve at least made a new Mario model. But whatever, I’m sure it’ll at least be good.

I actually enjoyed the comet missions quite a bit. They gave me the challenge I was looking for, and oen you don’t see in a lot of today’s games. I don’t like it when they re-use engines either, but I’ve enver seen Nintendo do it as just a carbon copy. Majora’s Mask was built on the same engine as Ocarina of Time, but they were completely different games. I’m psyched for SMG2

Here’s some more E3 trailers of games I’m interested in:

Racing titles

Spli/Second
You’ll never believe which game company did this: Disney Interactive Studios! The same guys who brought you those kiddy friendly-family fares have created one of the most original concepts in racing games I’ve seen! There’s shades of Death Race and Burnout in there, but I love the idea of [spoil]the environment being used as a weapon[/spoil]!

Forza Motorsport 3
This is another racing title I’m looking forward to. The track looks beautiful and reminds me of Corsica from Need for Speed Porsche 2000. If anyone knows the track used as the trailer music, please let me know!

NFS Shift
Need for Speed is kinda meh now, and this title looks too much like Grid and PGR at the moment (In fact, just remove the ‘f’ from the title and you’ll get my opinion of the franchise these days.). We’ll have to wait and see.

Cinematic-looking trailers

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
I’ve heard great reviews on the first, so Uncharted’s second outing ‘Among Thieves’ should be cool. Like Tomb Raider or Indiana Jones. If this was a movie I would so watch it.

Mass Effect 2
Apparently the sequel to the most epic (and most controversial) sci-fi game in gaming history.

Splinter Cell Conviction
Typical, get someone to play the piano to make a scene look atmospheric and deep. And Sam Fisher looks like Jack Bauer! I do love the part though where he [spoil]smashes through the glass reflecting the Washington Monument, very cinematic shot.[/spoil]

Just Cause 2
Just Cause’s sequel looks like more of the same, but I like the trailer’s taglines and the insane stunts.

The Agency
The Agency looks like a spy spoof game, I love the humour in this trailer. Is this by the same developers as Team Fortess, cos’ it looks like their art style.

But out of all these, my most anticipated title is this, primarily because it’s the sequel to my favourite game of all time…

Mafia 2
Warning for strong language.

And just for laughs…

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
I don’t quite know what to think of this game.

Kung Fu Hustle
And this just looks bad. But the movie it’s based on is awesome.

Are any of you guys excited for these titles? What games are ya looking forward to?
