well our country is digging a hole for itsself, and Godon Brown wants to spend his way out of it!
Thaaaaaaaaanks, Mitch. Al-Bob and I are fighting our way through a sea of liberals, and you chose now to reveal yourself. Top notch.
Jk. But seriously, a little help here? ![]()
Rac_Rules - Ha! I thought you guys already knew. Looks like I was wrong.
So are we the only Republicans on here or what? (snigger)
– Mitch
I’m not republican…i’m conservative.
I believe in Capitalism…and freedom’s.
Well I’m not democratic, I’m liberal.
I believe in Superman and brutal totalitarian dictatorships.
That’s a shame. It’s that kind of head-in-the-sand mentality that has brought this country to where we are now. There’s nothing wrong with being a proud Rebublican… but has it ever occured to you that you might not always be right? I’m very much a proud liberal (as you could tell from my posts), yet I would never think myself so correct that I would say “I shall not change my views.”
If I sound like I’m on a high horse… too bad, it needs to be said. And this goes for those on both sides. You don’t have to reply to this, but I hope people here will at least take the 45 seconds to read this post and at least think about it.
Already, Rush Limbaugh has started calling this the “Obama Recession.” Does anyone with one brain cell left honestly think this recession we’re in now is the cause of someone who still won’t even be in office or able to make one policy decision for over two months? The only thing he’s been is 1 of 100 Senators. Yet it’s now the “Obama Recession.”
If all someone on the right listened to was Rush and Fox, well gee, we’re now in the Obama Recession, time to get out the torches and tear down a new President before he even takes office.
If all someone from the left listened to was Daily Kos and MSNBC, well gee, then all Republicans are greedy, corrupt and cold-hearted little SOBs.
But to already say, before our new President has even taken office, that you won’t even give him a chance, that our country is going to be royally screwed, is pretty low. Even when Bush got elected (even after the bitter fight) we all came together for a while to give him a chance.
Remember after 9/11, the entire country (and world) came together, until Bush went “my way or the highway” and blew all that good will. Right now we’re in an economic 9/11, and the least you can do is give the new guy a chance. If you don’t like what he does while in office, fair enough, complain about it. But you’ve already pre-judged him before he even takes office. Not without worth noting, but the word “prejudice” comes from “pre-judge.” Because you’ve already made up your mind about something before it happens.
I urge everyone out there, whether you have strongly held political opinions or not, to not get your source of news just from outlets that agree with you. It’s like being surrounded by nothing but yes-men. There’s a big, wide, wonderful world out there outside of the partisan echo chambers, and we all might actually learn something once in a while by getting more of the story than just what people we choose to listen to cherry-pick.
Things in this world are a lot more complicated than some would want you to find out about. One small example. Say both myself and Mitch were Senators. I introduce a bill (Senate Bill 001) that says all people with brown eyes must pay an “eye tax” of $300 a month – and also that murdering someone should be a crime (doesn’t matter if it already is). Mitch obviously votes against the “eye tax” bill – but then I can go campaign against Mitch and tell everyone “Mitch voted against making murder a crime.” And yes, it would technically be the truth. I could go on Rush (or Olbermann) and talk day after day about how Mitch is against victim’s rights because he voted against murder being a crime. And it would technically be true, because Mitch voted against the “eye tax” bill that also said murder is a crime. This may sound silly, but this happens all the time in politics – and in things having nothing to do with politics. And if you listen only to “your side” (no matter whose side you’re on) you’re never going to get the whole story, only a small piece of it.
There’s nothing wrong with being a proud Republican or Democrat. After all, there’s more than one way to get from Point A to Point B – which made me disappointed to see Mitch’s comments (if I understood them correctly).
Let’s at least give the new guy a chance and see what he does before tearing him down, huh? Or have we, as a country, sank so low that it’s time to tear him down before he even steps into office? Is that what being a true American is?
