Fans Of Peas in a Pod

Having seen Toy Story 3 … who became a fan of peas in a Pod?
these small guisantitos engaged in a pod that are adorable.

Not me. they had what, 3 lines? their barely characters at all.

I think the only way I could say I’m a fan of them is because they’re cute. I agree with Kyle that they had hardly any screen time.

I agree they had barely any screen time, but this is a bit harsh to say that they are barely even characters.

From their voice actors, I took the peas to be very young and child like. Their playfulness also attributes to this.

Though they weren’t on screen that long, they certainly provided fun to the movie! I enjoyed all of their appearances.

I am a fan.

I’m a fan of Bonnie’s toys in general, they work so well together as a group. I hope (and expect) to see the peas given a larger role in the upcoming shorts, which I think is what all the new characters were introduced for in the first place.

I dont think its harsh at all. sadly this is the case for the rest of Bonnie’s toys as well, to a slightly lesser extent. I at least feel like Trixie could have potential, but that might be partially because Im used to Kristen Schaal’s quirkiness and overall adorable personality in her stand up. But in general Bonnie’s toys can be described in one or two words. Prickelpants, Shakespearean thespian. Trixie, quirky. Buttercup, chill. Peas, curious kids.

With a real character you have a good idea of what to expect in any given situation. These are extras, nothing more. claiming your a fan of the peas isnt much different than saying your a fan of the cashier in that scene of an ep of some sitcom. no matter how attractive they might be, they dont get to call themselves characters just because they look cute, have a mouth and were able to use it for a few seconds.

And Dolly?

Whoops, forgot about her for some reason. Umm, you know what Im drawing a blank for a description for her. I didn’t see much personality in her either though, her lines usually only served to advance the plot. things like “you’re learning fast” was a funny line it itself, but it would have been just as funny coming from anyone else in the room, it wasn’t a character specific moment.

I guess, caring is the only word that comes to mind.

My point is these are all very broad descriptions, its hard to really say your a fan of them unless you happen to like their designs and/or stereotype they represent, but that’s pretty superficial.

Lee himself said in an interview that they had to design these characters with very basic concepts so as to be understood instantly, due to their limited time on screen. If they want to flesh them out in shorts or something, that’s fine. but until then, there’s no real personality there.

A lot of people seemed to be gung-ho to get a replica of the hockey puck… and isn’t the extent of his screen time just shrugging when Mr. P says “what are you looking at hockey puck?”

Lots of people seem to want snake & rebot replics… and until I rewatched TS1 with that in mind, I hadn’t even taken notice of them as characters.

Who’s to say what catches someones attention.

They are not major characters, no. But they are an adorable part of Bonnie’s toy collection.

I agree with frontierqueen on this one. Though, I’m not really a fan of Peas in a Pod, they do add a nice touch to movie. I loved their childish bickering.

Peas in a Pod are okkay I guess. They’re adorable, and I wish I had one when I was a child. But they’re more like a prop to me than a character, due to lack of screen time.

Hockey puck isn’t a character really either, as are robot, snake, and a bunch of others. your allowed to like them, but if you do it has little if nothing to do with their personalities, since they werent really given any.

Although I do agree with you Kyle
They barely got any lines, but, I guess Pixar thought there wernt many ‘Toys’ in Toy Story 3.
But Peas-In-A-Pod, are super cute!!!

I agree that PitP should have had more screentime. I mean, I was expecting more; they were my most looked-forward-to new minor character next to Mr Pricklepants, actually. But yeah, I expected them to sound like adults, so it was a surprise to hear them sound like kids. Which makes them all the more irresistible!

If you haven’t guessed, I’m a huge fan.

What about Lenny? He seems to have even less lines that Peas have. What about his personality?
Yet he seems to be popular, too. Or perhaps it’s just me being lucky to see him mentioned often. Anyway, Linux called last version of Debian Lenny. Why not Jessie? It’s not fair at all, IMHO.

As for Peas - yep, they do have few lines, Still they are adorable - I just loved when they [spoil]got into Mr. Potato Head.[/spoil]
I’d love to have replica, really. But the only I saw so far was Disney Store one - and it’s 8 inches long, Way too big for me, I want them smaller so that I can use as a keychain or attach to my bag. Like 3-4 inches, not bigger.
Perhaps, I should try to make one myself.

I agree with love70ways. I’ve done several community theater productions where I didn’t have any lines. I believe that every actor in a movie, TV/stage show, etc. is a valued member of the company and that there’s no such thing as a small part. So, I guess since I didn’t have any lines in that one show, I was worthless, huh?

Didn’t say they were worthless, these movies wouldn’t work without these glorified props. Bonnie needs toys afterall, and andy needs toys he doesnt play with much. the daycare needs tons of them.

There’s still a difference between that and a character though.

I do think Kyle has a point. I love the character design of Peas in a Pod, and I get that they’re meant to be child-like, but I can’t physically understand how it’s possible to be a fan of them in the same way that one can be a fan of Buzz or Woody, etc. I think the reason why characters such as the Hockey Puck or Lenny from the previous Toy Story films have become so popular is not because of their personalities (though Pixar does manage to convey a lot of personality within them despite their lack of screen time) but quite simply because they’re iconic.

Considering how little screen time Bonnie’s toys have, it’s amazing that though the audience might not know an excessive amount about them, we still get a good feel for them and we’re easily able to imagine what they might be like outside of Toy Story 3- hence they have their fans too.

Yeah, it’s true really. A lot of the iconic toys that appear in the Toy Story films (like the ones talked about in the Toy Story Replicas topic) are ones we’d like to have only because they were in the films, and not so much because those toys in particular had any real character development or anything. I haven’t had my old Little Tikes fire truck anymore since I was about 7, but the only reason I’d like to have it in my collection again is cause it was in Andy’s room. Robot is a cool looking toy in the film, but all we really hear him say is “Mr. Lightyear wants more tape!”. And the Mr. Mike that was made during the original film is a great collector’s item, but would we really use it much when people don’t even use cassette tapes anymore? I’d love to have a Mr. Mike myself, but if I do I know it’s just going to sit there with my other toys. That’s how it is with us fans.

Here’s a picture I found of my old fire truck taken around Christmas time
(and by a funny coincidence I also had a stuffed hedgehog in there like Mr. Pricklepants :stuck_out_tongue:):

Ha, that’s what I imagined as well, the same adult voice for all three!
