Now that the logo is out, I thought I’d make a thread for this new stop-motion film, directed by Wes Anderson, and based on the book by Roald Dahl. This is also the second Roald Dahl film to be in stop-motion. James and the Giant Peach was the last, which I really liked, so I hope this is just as good!

I think it looks interesting, I always love a good stop-motion animation film and I also adored this book when I was younger.

The logo makes it look so… non-Wes Anderson. That makes me sad.

I’ve always loved Roald Dahl! That’s about all I used to read when I was younger! However, the movies based on his novels don’t really live up to themselves…

Roald Dahl used to be a favourite author of mine (he still is), and it wasn’t until much later that I discovered that one of my fave childhood films, James and the Giant Peach, was based on one of his books!

His stories make for great page-to-screen adaptations though, so this looks like it won’t be any different. I haven’t read Mr. Fox before, but I’m thinking of borrowing it on my next library trip.

Interesting that Henry Selick worked on this before moving to Coraline. I have not seen any Wes Anderson films, so I have no idea of his ‘cinematic style’, but it’s intriguing that this will be his first animated flick.

George Clooney and Meryl Streep as a foxy couple? Sounds mighty fun to me!

I like the chicken feathers in the logo. Maybe it’s the remains of all the poultry he’s consumed…

Can’t wait for a trailer.

Haha, I’d forgotten all about this book! But having seen the original front cover, I do remember reading it when I was much younger. How strange to have forgotten all about it!

If the movie adaptation is anything like James and the Giant Peach in terms of it being whimsical and fun and with good character development, then this might turn out to be a good film. I just hope it stays true to its source.

Wes Anderson and George Clooney. Come on.

Nice website, Pegasus! Thanks for the link. I like the pictures in the gallery. But I thought it was an animated film…

Edit: Oh, wait, they attached fur to the clay.

Here’s the trailer:

That was one of those trailers where I could not stop laughing! I HAVE to go see this now!

Considering I love Roald Dahl, stop-motion, and Wes Anderson, I’m sure I’ll love it.

Two nitpicks are that the animation is kinda… meh. Especially the mouth syncing. The other is that I heard George Clooney talking and not Mr. Fox. I don’t think he has the right voice for that character.

Cool trailer! Bill Murray’s voice is perfect for the badger. Can’t wait till’ this one comes out! :stuck_out_tongue:

The trailer looks pretty cool. The stop-motion animation is definitely choppier than the animation in Coraline, but it doesn’t bug me much. It’s kind of a trademark of stop-motion animation. I think the style of it looks neat.

Hm… the jokes in the trailer are good. I like the general vibe of it, kind of like a slick heist movie along the lines of Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, or Thirteen. The choppy animation reminded me a bit of Creature Comforts or Celebrity Deathmatch. The thing about most children’s book-to-film adaptations is that the scriptwriters have to find enough content to pad out the short story to a feature-length film, so it’s crucial they get the script right. I hope the parts they added make story logic sense and add to character development, rather than just for the sake of laughs. I’m sitting on the fence for this one, I’m faintly amused, but not outright impressed yet.

I take offense at that for Nick Park’s sake.

I got that vibe too, and not just because of the always cool Mr. Clooney presence. I think it looks pretty cool and would definitely be interested in checking it out!

Having actually read the book, it looks pretty much nothing like it. But the book follows a very simple and linear plot, so it more just serves as the premise for the film. If they didn’t add stuff, they could have done the whole story in 15 minutes.

As for the look of the film, I found it to be a bit strange. This definitely has a Wes Anderson feel to it. The cool indie pop songs, the slow-mo, the dance sequences, and the dry sense-of-humour. I think it will certainly be an interesting film, but nowhere near as good as Coraline.

I so agree with you there, Fett101. Nick Park has built upon what Aardman was established on… look at Wallace & Gromit… perfection!

Just viewed the trailer, it is funny, and based on the book by the infamous Welsh author… a book which I really enjoyed… the view of Clooney as a fox is not what I expected… and the appearance of Owen Wilson…

Well I’m sold… I enjoy Wilson as a voice actor!

You and Mr. Park don’t have to. I didn’t mean it as an insult. The fact is, it’s far from being as ‘smooth’ as, say, Beauty and the Beast or Toy Story. Just compare the way how the character’s mouth snaps open and close like castanets (which is Nick Park/Aardman’s trademark) and compare that with any classical Disney character. That’s the way stop-motion animation looks. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. Different method, different aesthetic.

Anyway, I’m still not impressed, but as I have done with Beverly Hills Chihuahua, The Princess and the Frog, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Citizen Kane, or G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, I will give it the B.O.D. until I’ve actually seen it.
