Favorite Character

'Twas

inevitable; I was surprised a favorite character thread hadn’t been made yet, so I figured I might as

well.

For the characters I simply think are the coolest, it’d have to be Luigi and Guido, especially

Guido. When it comes to characterization and depth, though, I find Doc to be far and away the most intriguing

character. He seems at first sight to be a grandfatherly sort of person (car), but as Lightning and later Sally

are quick to point out, he’s as flawed as Lightning was, which in a way makes him even worse because he was

therefore hypocritical when getting on Lightning’s case. But somehow at the same time he still is caring all

when it comes to the people (cars) of Radiator Springs. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is when

Lightning says that under the hood, the two of them are the same, and Doc immediately denies it, yet they really

are more alike than either one realizes, or perhaps more alike than Doc admits. When Lightning calls Doc out for

not being as trustworthy as he might seem, you can tell that Doc realizes that the kid is right, but he has a

prideful quality to him (just like, surprise, Lightning!) that prevents him from admitting it. Even when he

returns as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, his pride makes it so that he has to use Mater as an excuse for coming

back, even though it’s an extraordinarily pitiful excuse.

Personally, I’m of the opinion that Doc could

very well be the best character Pixar has come up with to date. I’ve got plenty more thoughts on his character

bottled up, but whenever I try to talk about this kind of stuff it tends to all gush out in a very disorganized

fashion. :unamused:

Maybe I’ve just got a thing for fast characters but

Lightning turned out to be my favorite. And can’t really pin point it - I guess I just relate to him very well.

I see alot of myself and who I want to be in him just like I did when I fell in love with Dash.

Fillmore = <3

I love him.

I’d have a much better explanation, but it’s nearing midnight- though I’m

usually a night owl a recent art class threw me off and now I get tired early =P

I had already liked Mater before

seeing the movie, but Luigi and Guido became my other favorites afterwards.

~~=oP

Mater! He’s just… so lovable.

I think DElf’s assessment of the complexity of Doc

Hudson’s character is pretty spot-on.

However, I think Sally is quite a character, too. You see, she’s

based on Dawn Welch, who owns the Rock Cafe on Route 66 in Stroud, Okla. I’ve known Dawn for about five years.

And she’s like Sally in the movie – good-looking, unafraid to stick her nose into somebody’s business when

it’s needed, unrelenting in making sure people fulfill their promises, a tireless booster of Route 66, a sharp

sense of sarcasm, and one who has no patience for fools.

The actress who portrayed Sally, Bonnie Hunt,

never met Dawn until the Carolina premiere in May. So I have to give Pixar’s screenwriters a lot of credit for

getting Sally (aka Dawn Welch) right.

So you actually know Dawn? That’s

so cool!

My favorite was Lightning. I think his character development

throughout the film made him extremely interesting.

Yeah, I don’t usually go for the leading character, but in this case, Lightning is my

favourite because he truly does learn a lot throughout the film. Doc is very interesting, too- he’s the one

character that I’d like to see his backstory being expanded even further. To be honest, there wasn’t a single

character I disliked- even those flashy lit-up cars that messed around with Mack were really funny, especially

during the ending credits!

I

actually have several favorites. Mater was a fave long before it was released. I then grew attached to Red, Mack,

Fillmore, Luigi, and Guido. It surprised me that I grew attached to so many characters when I thought, at

first, that I wouldn’t enjoy the movie that much.

I have to say Mater is my favorite. He’s so sweet, so innocently naive; Larry the Cable Guy

put it best when he said, “He’s the best friend you’ll ever wanna have, and he makes ya laugh!” I

always get choked up when Mater says “I didn’t get to say goodbye to him.”

But like

lizardgirl, I can’t really pick out a character that I don’t like. Even Chick serves his purpose - sure he’s

a shallow jerk, but McQueen isn’t much better in the beginning. At the end of the movie, it is Chick’s

unchanging jerkiness that really illustrates how much McQueen has changed. Not that

I’m a big Chick fan, I just thought I’d point that out.

And DElf made an excellent point about Doc and

McQueen being more similar than they first appear - just like McQueen and Sally. At first those two seem so

different. McQueen is living in the fast lane and cares only for himself, Sally has settled down and cares only

about the other cars of Radiator Springs. But when Sally starts talking about her past, we see that she used to

live a life very similar to McQueen’s, even though she was quicker to leave that life and fall in love with

Radiator Springs. This observation actually sparked a bit of fanfiction in me that I actually like - it’s just

not quite finished yet.

Yeah, Sally’s kind of the end product when McQueen isn’t there yet. And I feel that any bad feelings towards

Chick kind of disappear at the end because you kind of know that he has a chance to change to, if he wants it

enough, and maybe McQueen can show him how. When everyone boos at Chick, surely that must make him realise that

something has changed?

I think I like Lightning McQueen as my fav <3 Mater is

also on my list :-D) But he’s so funnie!! [funny] And who could forget Sally she’s awsome!! But she luvs

Lighting!!! Doc is really intersteing , but luigi’s friend Guido is soo cute!!! <3 Chick is my least

favorie character he’s a big jerk!! pardon me, I mean a big ugly stinking doo doo head as my little bro T

No shouting, please.

My favorite character is MATER . He is soooo CUTE . <3

My favorite character is

Lighting Mcqueen. He reminds me so much of Dash.

I have to jump on the Hudson

bandwagon. He’s really the only other character apart from Lightning that has a story of character growth, and a

very good one. Combine that with the excellent voice of Paul Newman, and you have the makings of a great

character.

One of my new favourite parts, having seen the movie again, is during the final lap of the

final race, when Lightning is sliding on the grass while Chicks and King are ‘loose’, and you can see Doc’s

face split into a smile of part surprise, part hope as Lightning uses his power sliding trick to regain control.

Nice one, Pixar.

Paul Newman for best supporting actor!

I also can’t say to Guido or Mack.
