The Lion King makes #1. I am a big Shenzei fan.
Thanks TSS for the editng thing. ![]()
Does Treasure Planet count as a classic? If so, then it’d be my favorite!
Pinocchio, Aladdin, Mulan, Lion King, and Tarzan, I think. Well, I haven’t watched all the Disney Classics, but I do like them.
Unlike the more fortunate citizens of the West, I was not blessed with the fortune of watching classic Disney movies till the very late '90s; the dawn of the '20s, to be specific.
The first one I laid eyes upon was The Lion King. I thank God for the experience, it was amazing. I am unable to remember if I cried, but I am sure I did during Mufasa’s death. I literally eyed Scar as the symbol of all evil back then.
I was young. ![]()
But I remember one tearing experience, and that is Beauty And The Beast, though I cried when I was a teenager.
My first watch was on the television. I never attained the opportunity to watch it on an IMAX theater as my thoughts of it were cynical and close-minded. I assume the reason for my tears was that I was about 11 or 12 then, and I had not absorbed as much tearjerkers as I have today, so I did not really understood the concept of a death scene in the movies. Thus, when the ‘Beast’ laid lifelessly before Belle, the single thought flashing through my brain cells were, “This is it, he’s dead.” At that time, the scene was the Beauty. ![]()
I repetitively sung A Whole New World after listening to the soundtrack. In fact, I used the song for my class’s version of American Idol. I had to literally practice the entire song for that audition. It was really fun, and the movie, which I had failed to watch before encountering its songs, was enriching. One Jump Ahead was a well tuned piece, too.
There are many other Disney classics that touched my heart, one of which included Tarzan; I loved Strangers Like Me and Two Worlds. Great plot, great songs, great characters, as with Mulan.
Mulan was a funny story - the movie, not the plot. After watching the movie, I literally fell in love with Mulan (the character), especially her pony-tailed look. I bought the soundtrack, sitting at one corner of my storeroom where the radio was stored, and repeated the soundtrack continuously while gazing faithfully at her photo.
Two of my favorites would be Reflection and I’ll Make A Man Outta You.
Disney had create many masterpieces in the past, but it is not far from its previous greatness today. You have to be relent when reviewing today’s Disney features. As time draws on, excellent plots are becoming more difficult to be thought out, as everyone is cruel to repeats in stories, and there are a few titles worth mentioning, including Bolt, Meet The Robinsons and Cinderella 3: A Twist In Time.
The last one was my personal favorite, as that led me to liking Cinderella’s tanned complexion. I know she did not started out as a tanned Disney Princess and she was never tanned in that film, but orange tan suits her, and she most definitely looks cute. ![]()
Peter Pan holds a special place in my heart, but I don’t think it’s Disney’s best. My favorite Disney classics are Aladdin, The Lion King, and Cinderella.
Honorable mentions (I can’t help myself!) go to Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mulan, Bambi, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, and sooooo many more.
I forgot about Aladdin! Another one of my faves!! Gotta love Genie!
The Little Mermaid II might not count as a classic, and I know some of you guys might hate it because it’s a Disney cheapquel, but to tell the truth, it was my favorite when I was little- I used to borrow it from the library and watch it over and over.
I watched Hercules in class last year, in social studies class because we were learning about Ancient Greeks, and what annoyed me sooo much was that when the wonderful songs in the movie started, some of my classmates moaned and mocked it as if it were a silly cartoon.
Don’t they respect classic Disney work anymore?
Unfortunitly our world today believes that music from The Dark Knight is better or Jim Ferrel Music…everything has changed.
I love so many Disney classics! I’ve been re watching a bunch of them lately. My top favorites include The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and 101 Dalmatians. Oh! And can’t forget Mulan and the Jungle Book!
Sadly, that is the case, Al-Bob. I mean, nothing can beat a good Disney classic song. Always brings a smile to my face when I hear one!
I watched Aladdin last night for the first time in at least 5 years. there were so many parts that I had forgotten about, and I was laughing my butt off…Particularly this moment:
Definitely one of my favorites. ![]()
JesusFreak: LOL!!! ![]()
Al-Bob: Not to mention, there is HSM and Camp Rock. I guess a lot of kids these days would rather listen to a repetitve “We rock, we rock, we rock!” type song than one that actually MEANS something, and has more inspirational lyrics. It makes no sense to me.
Sorry for the double post…
I watched and recorded Aladdin recently on Disney Channel. I loved the Genie. All his references to modern times and other movies, including Disney…all his funny lines…hilarious character.
Anyone remember this part?
Aladdin: “She thinks the monkey is the Sultan.”
Jasmine: “Oh, great Sultan! How may I serve you?”
Abu: “Well, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah”
Aladdin: “Tragic, isn’t it? But no harm done. C’mon, sis, time to go see the doctor.”
Jasmine: [to camel]: “Hello, doctor. How are you today?”
Aladdin: “No not that one.”
Not to mention I recently saw quite a lot of Disney classics recently…but they’re just a small percentage of how much classic Disney there is to see! I feel guilty for having taken classic Disney for granted a few years back. I guess you could say I didn’t realize how good something was til it was gone.
Mulan, Lion King, Jungle Book, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Tarzan, Pocahontas, and Great Mouse Detective
Just a few of my favs
I am absolutley in love with the Lion King! I used to watch it like 5 times a day, no joke ![]()
As far as all of their 2D-animated films go, my favorite would have to be Tarzan (My overall favorite Disney movie is Bolt, but I doubt that many would consider that “classical”).
The Lion King, hands down. It’s a fable for the ages of Shakespearean proportions (It was based on Hamlet!). I mean, really, it’s quite literally about Life, and how to live it with purpose and meaning. The whole movie’s about one lion’s entire life!
There’s a reason why it remains the highest-grossing traditionally-animated film of all time…
The Lion King is my favorite.
And it has been for almost 5 years now.
Well the Hunchback of Notré Dame was just on TV and I’d forgotten just how much I loved it. I’m not sure if it really counts as ‘classic’ (1996?) but it is definantly one of my favourite Disney films.
I haven’t seen it since I was little and I didn’t really catch all the adult themes until just now, you’ve got mass hysteria, corruption, lust etc. Even the song lyrics make more sense. Speaking of the music; it’s brilliant, I love all the sepulchral pieces.
Aladdin is definitely my favourite.
The songs, the characters, the animation, it’s all top notch and drop-dead funny to boot.
I am so glad I could finally get it on DVD. I think I probably watched it a gazillion times on VHS, so the tape is pretty worn out at this point.
