(Oct. 19) - If you’ve been looking for Nemo, that rebellious fish from the 2003 animated film "Finding

Nemo," you can soon find him on stage, along with his overprotective clown fish of a father Marlin and the

movie’s other aquatic characters.

Disney is converting the undersea tale of Marlin’s adventurous search

for Nemo, who is scooped up by a diver, into what company officials are calling a "Broadway-caliber

short-form" stage musical.

Preview performances of ‘Finding Nemo-The Musical’ are set to begin in

November and the premiere is set for January 2007 in the 1,500-seat Theater in the Wild at Disney’s Animal

Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

The production marks the first time Disney has

made a musical of a non-musical animated film, said Anne Hamburger, executive vice present of Disney Creative

Entertainment, who was at Manhattan’s Palace Theatre Wednesday where two animated puppets - including Nemo -

were presented and composers performed two songs from the musical.

Using animated backdrops, special

lighting, sound and effects, The Theater in the Wild will be transformed into a magical underwater wonderland

populated with puppets and dancers and animated backdrops, Hamburger said.

There will be tap-dancing

sharks, bike-riding puppets and a punk performance by the great white shark Bruce, Disney officials said.

The musical will run about 30 minutes compared to the a 1-hour-44-minute movie, which grossed hundreds of

millions of dollars at the box office, Hamburger said.

To make the underwater environment come alive on

stage, Disney officials enlisted some of mainstream theater’s most well-known names.

Peter Brosius, the

artistic director at The Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis, Minn., is directing the musical.

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who was co-creator and co-composer of the Tony Award-winning

“Avenue Q,” composed original songs for the new musical.

Michael Curry, who co-created the

character puppets in Broadway’s “The Lion King,” is creating the puppetry for the new show.

In

the musical, the main characters - Nemo, Marlin and Dory - will appear as animated puppets operated by live

performers, Curry said.

New techonology and other tricks will give the stage an “underwater”

feeling, Curry said.

Hamburger wouldn’t say how much Disney is spending to create 'Finding Nemo-The

Musical.’

Entry to ‘Finding Nemo-The Musical’ will be included with regular admission to Disney’s

Animal Kingdom.

Hmm, that’s quite interesting…It sounds very short,

although that’s probably due to not wanting to bore children.

:unamused:

Not to fond of the idea.

They should just do it on broadway . it’s gonna be wicked dumb now and the puppets

are gonna have people in them , unlike lion king and beauty and the beast on broadway . it makes me feel

embarrased to watch it .

i like the sound of the othere nemo attraction better , at least the dude

sounded like marlin . kinda . i can’t tell the diffrence . can u ?

I’m

not sure what it is, but for some reason…dancing people in oversized costumes – that are in the form of Pixar

characters, in particular – is just disturbing to me. I feel this urge to let my opinions be heard and explain

why these wonderful characters should just be left alone – out of the stage plays and the extravagant musicals.

No offense to anyone, though. I’m just saying that I’ll never go to one of those things as long as I

live, with the exception of The Lion King musical on Broadway. I have a soft spot

when it comes to The Lion King:wink:

A Nemo Musical? This is

rather intresting. I am quite fascinated of this. At the same time, I am not sure about this also. It

sounds like a good idea, but

is it?

LOL

Mitch, sounds like something from the twilight zone when you put it like that.

well , i saw some pictures , but

marlin looks too old. there not like chuck e. cheese costumes , there like how they did zazu in the lion king .

i’d rather see it on broadway . then i wouldn’t have to go to disney world .

Three words: Kill. Me.

Now.

"There will be tap-dancing sharks, bike-riding puppets and a punk performance by the great white

shark Bruce, Disney officials said." Worst sentence in the entire article. I’m not sure whether to laugh

hilariously at the stupidity of it or to be seriously frightened by the stupidity of it.

luxo: And, in a sense, it is. :unamused:

gottalovepixar: Is that how it’s supposed to look? Hmm. Well, I still

won’t see it. :stuck_out_tongue:

DElf4242: Haha – the latter, DElf4242. The latter.

I won’t mind if it was a half an hour show, but I really don’t want a full length feature.

Yeah, the snores will deafen the place. LOL.

Yeah, I agree…It kind of ruins the image of the film. And

since this musical is going to be so short, then they’re probably going to miss out key scenes anway.

Well it looks like none of us are really happy about this at all. This is probably down to Disney in some

way. :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah ,

since disney bought pixar i’ve not been happy with most pixar things . i feel as if pixar is dissapearing a

little each time they do something . exept for the living seas attraction . that one sounds pretty good .

Yeah and the Cars merchandise doesn’t compare

to the The Incredibles stuff, as if doesny has a whole team with a huge list of whats to be merchified. (note,

not even a word)

i know , what’s next ,

"Cars " the musical ? and don’t know if you noticed , but they treat their movies better than pixar’s

. the buzz lightyear ride is a game and lots of their movies still have merchandise unlike pixar’s .

I’m almost ashamed to admit I have

written two songs that could be used for The Incredibles the Musical.

Seriously though, I will

wait to pass judgement because so many of Disney’s musicals are spectacular and the Disney on Ice shows have

proved their worth too. =)

I wish that there was an Incredibles Musical Dash. I would

audition for that right away.

OK … im not gonna say anything about hat .

Dash : i went to the toy story one and , after you see their broadway , the disney on ice looks kinda

cheesy .
