I got around to watching my Bug’s Life DVD, and I came across a very funny
skit/sneak peak on the second disc called “Pixar’s Wonderful World of Bugs” hosted by
Professor John Lasseter.
John is dressed up as a bug catcher who introduces
us to Pixar’s upcoming film “Bugs”, as it was called during pre-production. He is later joined by his
flea puppet pal,
Fleabie:

He flies all around the studio showing us artwork and some
animation:

As John ends the tour, Fleabie flies off into the parking lot where he splats onto the
windshield of a moving car.

I thought it was very cute and SO Pixar.

Oh yes, DEFINITELY PIXAR.
To those
Disney execs who had to watch this in a meeting, I’d bet they were strained from just having a good laugh as
well as thinking “We’re trusting THESE GUYS in making a film??”
Poor Fleabie . . . but he does
look good in theatre near Stanton. Wonders how he lived . . .
Lol, I saw that about a year ago- I love it
That’s one of the things that reassured me that I should work for Pixar.
That is crazy. John is so funny in that outfit of his. I like that, Professor
Lassiter.
Hahaha. Yup.
The
funniest thing about the skit is the intentional mismatched lip-syncing, almost how it looks in anime. It was an
odd choice made by the crew when filming it, but it worked.

It also makes it look like one of those old film reels,
where it’s so old that the audio and video don’t sync anymore…
That looks so funny - I need to get a
hold of the Bug’s Life DVD and see that one…
OMG, I love Fleabie . He’s so cute . That’s one of
my favorite bunus features on the Bug’s Life DVD .

That is really adorable! If
Lasseter did an extra like that on the Cars dvd, I would be soooo happy!
I really have to get the “Bug’s Life” DVD now!
That looks so
funny! I’ve always admired Pixar’s ability to relay “old” information in new and creative ways. By
now, I’m sure we’re all familiar with the animation process (storyboarding, layout, animation, etc.) but the
Pixar crew always comes up with a new, interesting way to walk through this process.

One down, one
to go!
Finally saw Fleabie! It cracked me up!
I love that Pixar has the technology to make
such wonderful, gorgeous, pristine visual masterpiece, and yet still finds the time to make something
intentionally bad-looking. I especially liked the Hopper voiceover in the test animation, and the German voice
for that guy who introduced it. “It is my desire to show you preliminary animation…” Awesome.
