For the Catholics: What are you giving up for Lent?

So glad I don’t do lent … just had some Kale soup and chorico ( pronounced shereese ) . Yum

!! I love being portuguese !

The only problem is because of Lent I get stuck with school fish nuggets for

lunch gags

I don’t want to delve too deep into this topic here, since Pixar Planet

probably isn’t the most fitting place to have an extensive discussion on this matter, but I don’t think eating

meat on Fridays during the Lenten season is obligatory either (it is, however, recommended). Even if it were, I

don’t think there’d be too much of a problem if you accidentally eat meat on Friday (which, quite honestly,

I’ve regrettably done before). The point is, as long as you have the desire to sacrifice, and as long as you do

your best to go along with that desire, then you’re not really sinning/being a bad person/etc. We are, after

all, human beings, and unfortunately, we do have the tendency to forget things.

In my case, whenever I

forget about not eating meat on a Friday during Lent, I simply decide to sacrifice the day after, on a Saturday

(I actually did this last week, when I accidentally ate roast beef on a Friday - too bad they were serving bacon

on Saturday, but I guess that’s when my desire to sacrifice was really tested

).

What Gasduude said was absolutely correct. However, even if it

were 40 days, I don’t think it would be unhealthy. Ever heard of vegetarians? (I hope I didn’t sound too

sarcastic there…) If vegetarians can do it, then any person sure as heck can. But to reiterate, not eating meat

does not pertain to the entire forty days, as Gasduude mentioned.

^ I agree with CountSolo. You won’t

fall dead from weakness without meat. My sister’s a vegan (no animal products at all so no butter, milk, etc.)

and she’s really healthy. I’m not vegetarian but I eat very little meat. And only chicken. And I’m still fine.

Meat is not the only source for protein.

- Glad you agree with me for the most part!

I have to disagree though: I believe it

is a sin to eat meat on fridays during lent…

But your right, this isn’t the time and the place!

I don’t wanna seem like I’m being rude, but I’m curious: Where in the

bible does it talk about that?

I don’t believe it says so explicitly

anywhere.

However, we as Catholics don’t eat meat on Fridays because we like to give

reverence to the Death of Jesus. We beleive God died for our sins and we should at least honor the day he is

traditionally thought to have died on…

So it’s not really anywhere in the Bible…just in our

Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Ohh ok. Thanks!

No problem!

Sometimes I

even wonder where this stuff comes from!
