Exactly. Watching a dub is actually watching an adulterated version of a film.
That’s why I skip films from theatres when they only release the dubbed versions.

True, but there’s some movies I just can’t imagine as anything other than Dutch because it’s the first one I’d ever seen. This includes Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 2 and just about any classic Disney short.
That said, Disney’s pretty good at dubs compared to other studios. But the original is always better, it’s just that dubs in my mother tongue, bad as they sometimes might be, hold a special place in my heart. …That, and it’s easier to recognize voice actors. I pride myself on my voice-actor-recognition-skills when it concerns Dutch media, or maybe I’m just a weirdo.
That said again, I’m still deciding between seeing Frozen in Dutch or English. Or I’ll go to Belgium and watch it in Flemish, because why not!
You guys, look! I see a new trailer! (posted by Jennifer Lee herself no less on her Twitter page).

I was not planning on posting more, but I guess I can come back for a short period because this trailer spurred some thoughts on me. I do have one concern about the trailer, but none of it concerns the content of the film clips. I loved everything I saw and heard of the excerpts of the trailer. My slight concern is only in the text they used to describe the film towards the end, but I wonder what others will say first.
^ You mean where they compare it to The Lion King?
I wouldn’t look into it too much, it’s a pretty common marketing method Disney have been using for a while now. I’m pretty sure The Princess and the Frog was also proclaimed to be the greatest animated film since TLK as well.
Anyway, I was online on Tumblr when the trailer was uploaded so I got to ride the hype train for a couple of hours. It’s died down a bit now but it was pretty fun to join in the gigantic scream fest for a while there.
I’m glad they saved this trailer for the end. In the movie Elsa is presented as a mysterious and elusive character so it makes sense for the marketing team to hold back on showing her too much in the first couple of trailers. It was definitely better than the last trailer and has pushed my excitement for the movie from “pretty interested” into “I NEED TO SEE THIS THE DAY IT IS RELEASED”.
Yup, you got it, and I actually have a different reason for that than most. It’s because out of all of the most beloved Disney films, I never understood why TLK got SO much praise. I like it and own and the DVD. But I’ve re-watched a few times lately and thought “This is good, but better than the classics?”. I personally prefer all the Pixar films (even TS3), all of Walt’s films, all the Disney ones John’s produced. I do think Frozen will be phenomenal, I just personally feel that Disney has made better films since TLK like Tarzan. Sorry for taking so long to say that. But what you said is just the advice I should take, so thanks, Draik!
Love the new trailer. It’s great to see them advertising it as an epic fantasy adventure. The Lion King mention came as a surprise, but it’s great to see them embrace the legacy of the studio. Tells me they have a lot of confidence in this one!
I do understand the purpose of the other two trailers. That type of marketing is what made Tangled successful, and it’s clearly working for Frozen so far. The people at my screening of Monsters University a few months ago laughed hysterically at that first teaser with Olaf and Sven. It’s nice to see something that us fans and it’s legacy can all appreciate.
And I think this trailer showed us that the marketing crew could whip up a trailer that could created a dramatic, character-driven trailer without catering to family audiences with its humor.
The reports I’ve been hearing so far have been extremely positive, so I have high hopes for this film. I know a lot of people are citing this as Tangled 2.0 or Tangled on Ice, and I can see where they are coming from with the comparisons, but if they can take something that worked well, and make it even better, then there’s nothing wrong with that.
I too, am glad about the confidence. I hope they were confident before this film too, though. I loved the last couple of films. I wouldn’t have minded them saying “From the creators of The Lion King and Tangled”. It’s just the “greatest movie since” part that threw me off at first. TLK is good, I like it, I just their recent films deserve at least as much credit.
I agree, I like several since Lion King better than it. I really don’t think it looks all that similar to Tangled? Still not getting that criticism. Especially since Tangled is amazing. Just saying.
The claim in the trailer about The Lion King is kind of weird to me, especially because several acclaimed Disney movies have been released since, but I guess it’s just to pump the audience up. That being said, it’s a great trailer and definitely made me excited
I think all the comparisons to Tangled are about the character ‘armada’ (the plucky heroine, the funny charming guy assisting her, the small sidekick and the big animal sidekick)—in which sense it’s pretty similar. But I’m thinking that the overall tone is going to be incredibly different from Tangled, especially because of Elsa.
So this trailer confirms I was right about my Anna theory.
I’m very excited!
I like this trailer better than the first one. I liked how they gave us a little preview of the music this time.

Pretty good clip. I think Olaf is starting to grow on me now, as Josh Gad is totally making the character work.
That clip is really great! Wow, I’m getting such a Renaissance Disney-sidekick vibe from Olaf. I think I’m going to like him a lot in the movie, actually, like how I did with Ray in TPatF. The color palette and character animation (especially facial animation) looks phenomenal!
The whole thing feels very Renaissance to me. I know Tangled brought that feeling back for me, I’m sure this movie will too.
I liked that clip! Olaf isn’t nearly as annoying as everyone suspected he’d be, honestly. At least to me he isn’t! And I really like the character designs in this movie so far. People are constantly saying how much the ladies look like Rapunzel, but that might be just because the earliest leaked images everyone keeps comparing to her are actually ‘recoloured’ Rapunzels. They have a more distinctive look in the finished product, which of course I’m glad about.
Really excited for this movie now!
Yeah you know that clip was amusing. It actually helped pique my interest a little more
I’m glad they’re all positive so far. I have hopes that it will maintain that average, especially considering how glowing the first two listed are.
Well, I’ve been spoiled! But I’m pleasantly surprised and relieved.
