"Game Art and Animation" Major?

Sorry if this is the wrong section, if so, I am truly sorry…

But I was wondering, would the major “Game Art and Animation” be somehow related into 3d animation for making movies and such? I was wondering because that is the most popular major name around at colleges, or at least what I found… if someone could answer this for me that would be great.

No one? I was thinking it would help because games themselves the characters need to basically come to life… that’s my take on it

I would imagine it is. My DGA teacher talks about Maya being the step brother to what game companies use, just the terminology is different.

Not directly, but fairly darn close.

the Game Art major definitely has the same basic animation classes as the animation students.

Modeling, Rigging, Texturing, etc.

So do you think if I took that as a major and took other classes as well I am kind of set in the 3d animation world?

Ehh, possibly. Depends what you learn.

usually its better to be a well rounded animator, by that i mean you should know:

Story Boarding, Character development, Rigging, Animating, Modeling, Texturing, etc.
