Yeah . . . it’s called Geri’s Game. But what the hey . . . we
know what short it is!!
I personally love this short, and it WAS my favorite until One Man Band came
around. Geri must obviously love life, because all he seems to do is fix collector’s toys and play
chess!!
It was so well done as well – You totally forget he’s playing against himself!!
Ahh, good
ole’ Geri’s Game. A great short- very unique, too. He’s such a lovable old man, and it was great to see him in
TS2.
It’s obviously my favorite short (I mean, look at my avatar and my signature
). The
character is wonderfull, he’s not really talking and yet he’s so funny and expressive.
And Jan Pinkava
did a great job directing it. Fun, clever and almost sad at the same time. Just brilliant.
I loved this short- definately one of my favorites! It
just goes to show how much detail and energy Pixar can pack into a single character. On a side note, Geri always
reminded me of my old Great-Uncle Joe.
I really enjoyed Geri’s game, I can’t wait till I get
the DVD of A Bugs Life to have it in amazing vision. LOL. Still watching my crummy VHS copy.
I must say who
ever came up with Geri’s Game is an absolute genious. It starts with an old man playing chess by himself, but as
the movie rolls along, the audience is so focused into the game, they forget that one person is playing it. So
when a second Geri comes along, people think that two are playing instead of one by himself. In the end, it is
revealed that he was playing by himself. It was all a trick of the mind.
Yeah, and at the time, quite a
stunning piece of animation.
And to make
things better, the person who came up with “Geri’s Game” is the writer for Ratatouille.
Seriously, now I know this is going to rule. ![]()
That’s what I thought when I heard Jan Pinkava was writing Ratatouille. As
Co-Directer, he and Brad Bird should prove an interesting team!
I
can’t wait for the story, but I’m expecting some sort of big chase sequence at least.
There will probably be one. After
all, you saw it in the teaser. That is supposed to indicate what to expect in the movie.
Well, sort of. I find Pixar teasers to be reasonably misleading. Let me explain that one: I found the
teasers for The Incredibles and Cars left me thinking, “…meh.” They were somewhat amusing, but the
humour didn’t really do much for me, and in both cases (for the initial trailers, that is), the footage was not
even from the movie. They didn’t leave me jumping to see the films, anyway. But The Incredibles movie
experience was one of the best ones I’ve ever had (try packing a theatre full of college students and
not having a good time), and that made me not give up hope for Cars, which was also
quite good.
On topic, Geri’s Game is a great short. I would always show it to my campers when they got
really bored, to let them know what cool things you could do with computers if you stick with it. ![]()
HAHA
Yeah.
I mean, the Ratatouille trailer looks frankly…erm…nothing really. You can’t tell
anything from it.
Pixar always does that. My friends always say to me, 'oh, that new Pixar film doesn’t look
very good, does it? I don’t know why you like them so much’. Then I drag them to the cinema and they come out
going ‘OMG THAT WAS AMAZING!!! Now I understand why you like them so much!’
The trailer for Cars, IMO,
is probably the worst Pixar trailer there is. Even I started to doubt Pixar and whether this film was actually
good. But hey, they did it again. I guess they didn’t want to go down the road of putting all of the funny bits
in the trailers so the audience don’t enjoy the film as much.
The cars trailer didn’t make a
huge impression on me, but I thought the Incredibles teaser was hilarious, I
couldn’t stop laughing! XD And Ratatouille looks fantastic so far. I think it
must be the hardest thing to cut together a trailer. You don’t want to ruin the best bits of the film, but
you’ve got to entice people in, and you’ve got to give the basic premise of the
film all at the same time, in about, what, sixty to a hundred and twenty seconds? Some feat! I think the best
thing Pixar did was to make new material for the Incredibles. You knew the premise
(a family of superheroes), it was funny (so that’s enticing) and it didn’t give away a darn thing!
Yeah, I
found with Shrek, for example, that I enjoyed the ads and wanted to see the film, but that once I had seen the
film, although there were several other funny parts, the funniest parts had been spoilt completely and it kind of
seemed obvious as to what was going to happen.
Yeah, I refuse to watch the making of and tv shows to
do with a movie before i See it, chances are they will spoil the funny parts by showing every one.
To me, everytime I
watch the making of something, it always amp up my excitement to watch it. And the funny parts are still
hilarious.
