I am 17 years old and all my life I have drawn with my right hand, and written with it, but now… I believe I have been mistaken, how can I TRULY find out which is my dominent hand?
I bat left-handed
Golf left-handed
Throw right-handed
Write right-handed
You could just be ambidextrous. I tend to do most things with my right hand but certain things with my left hand- I brush my teeth with my left hand, if I’m only using a spoon and no fork, like when eating soup or pudding, I’ll use my left hand, etc. I guess most people would consider the ‘dominant’ hand to be the one that you write with and the one that you automatically lead with, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t also use your left hand for certain things as well.
Apparently there are certain methods to be able to find out your dominant hand. A quick search on Google showed a few ideas, like have someone throw a ball at you and see which hand you catch it with and that sort of thing.
I tried those, but for a person like me, I am going to purposely catch the ball with the hand I want to be considered dominent, because I know the test is already happening…
For me, I’m right-handed, but I can use eating utensils interchangeably (sometimes my ma chides me for holding the fork and knife with the wrong hands, but I don’t even notice it!). Less so with fork and spoon, although it sometimes happens.
I’m right handed with most things. The only thing I can think of that I’m left handed is when I hold a hockey stick, I hold it left handed and I had to buy a special stick.
I’ve always thought you just told people which hand you write with, but I guess for certain things that would have to change. I’m not to sure about this stuff.
I’m a true right-hander. I write with my right, brush my teeth right-handedly, you name it.
Though one weird thing is that while I wear bracelets on my right, I tend to wear watches on my left. I currently have some hand-made friendship bracelets made out of plaited wool on my left hand.
Wearing a watch on your left arm is normal if you’re right handed. (And wearing the watch on your right arm is more common if you’re left handed.) I think it’s because most people would use their dominant hand to fasten the watch (my watch has a buckle band, and it would take me forever to fasten the buckle left-handed!).
I am very much right handed - except when I clean my glasses, I hold the glasses in my right hand and wipe the lenses with my left. No idea why, but it feels weird, trying to do it the other way.
That’s a good point, karly05. Plus, if you wear your watch on the hand you write with, then it might get in the way whilst writing, especially if it’s a larger, chunky watch.
I use my right hand for pretty much everything, but sometimes I’ll grab a utensil with my left, but I always notice what I’m doing and switch once I’ve used it. lol
I do a majority of things left handed, except for:
-Dribbling and shooting in basketball (I can do these with my left, but I just do it better with my right)
-Catching in softball
-Shooting a bow
-And cutting with scissors.
Hmm… This is pretty interesting, I’ve never really thought about hand dominance before. I’ve been saying that I’m right handed for the whole life, but now that I really look at it, there’s not one hand that’s really dominant over the other.
Just about everything I can do with my right hand (like writing, eating with chopsticks, batting in baseball, etc.) I can do with my left equally as well. Some things I can actually do better with my left hand, like spinning a pen around my thumb.
However, I would say that my right hand a lot stronger, both in finger strength and general arm strength. Like, I use my right arm and hand to arm wrestle and thumb wrestle. Also, it feels more comfortable doing things with my right hand. Therefore, I would have to say that I am semi-ambidextrous, leaning more toward the right. Haha, isn’t that a mouthful?
You are talking to mr left hand here… I practically do everything with my left hand.
I write, draw, throw, cook, eat, pour dig, bat, catch… all with my left hand
I struggle playing games on the Wii… cause I’m left handed!
The only thing I do right handed is Golf! My flat mates and I found this out when we were at a driving range… although putting I could be and probably am left handed, due to the want of touch etc!
I wear my watch on my Left hand… it became a bit of perfection during exams… as you can clock watch better as I tend to watch the pen not the pager and its automatically in my peripheral vision!
