Hidden City Cafe'

If you have ever noticed, at the scene in monsters inc., when the guy sneezes and his newspaper sets on fire, there’s a restraunt in the backround called Hidden City Cafe’. That restraunt is also in the teaser trailer for WALL-E. In the trailer it explains how the crew at pixar had a lunch there, and thought up the ideas for the movies, A Bug’s Life, Monsters inc., Finding Nemo, and WALL-E. I was just wondering if any of you knew about the real Hidden City Cafe’. Is it real at all  Is there more of the restraunts hidden in different pixar films

It sure is real. The address is: 109 Park Pl, Richmond, CA. It’s gotten pretty good reviews, too.

The animators used to go there (and I guess they still do.) Yes, the ideas for the first 5 Pixar films were discussed at one of the tables, as they explained in the first WALL•E trailer. I would love to go to the Hidden City Cafe when I travel to the US. Maybe there should be some kind of ‘Pixar tour’ where you get taken on a bus to all of the Pixar-related places, finishing with Pixar Animation Studios. That would be pretty schweet.

As far as I’m aware the only other restaurant referenced in a Pixar film is the Luxo Cafe, in The Incredibles. The Luxo Cafe is the cafeteria for Pixar (downstairs).

Wow. I call myself a Pixar fan when I wasn’t even certain as to whether or not that cafe was a real place. Thanks for the address and link, Rachel! I’ll have to check it out if I ever take a trip to Richmond.

Check out what the second meal includes in the “Pasta and Entrees” section here:

OH GOD THOSE LOOK SO GOOD.

Except that I thought “Niman Ranch Breaded Pork Chop” said “Ninja Ranch Breaded Pork Chop”.

Oh Pixar. I love you and your in-jokes.

kageri - You should check out the breakfast menu, man.

Puh-ha!!!

Speaking of Pixar’s cafeteria, I have tried their food there. I found it totally enjoyable.

The Star Swordsman - Do they serve ice cream there? That’s very important…

– Mitch

I don’t remember. I was really young when I went there.

Yeah, I wanna try me some of that falafel burger. The portion sizes look quite substantial, too. The place seems very quaint and charming, with live entertainment, to boot! They also have a few Pixar references around the place, but I’m having trouble finding photos.

Mitch - They serve everything at Luxo Cafe. (Maybe not everything.)

The Star Swordsman - I heard the food at Luxo Cafe is free. Is that true?

Wo that’s really cool! I just thought it was just for Monster’s Inc. Nice eye TAMATER!

The Star Swordsman - Ah. I see.

Rachel - Thanks for the link! It sure seems like a quaint little place. I didn’t really spot any Pixar references in that particular photograph, although I could have sworn that I saw Luxo Jr. in the top left-hand corner of the picture.

That would be pretty neat if they served everything.

Rachel: Again, I don’t remember. I went there when I was incredibly young.

TSS - Well what good are you then?! ;-p Thanks anyway.
