The villain look like the Bad cowboy of an Daffy Duck old cartoon.
I liked the stylized, cartoony animation. It reminded me of those old western Disney cartoons like Pecos Bill.
I liked Buck, because he was the only character with any real drive and energy to him. Like so many great Disney heroes, he had a dream, or as Glen Keane once said, “a burning in his heart.” Of course, in this case, it was a misguided dream…
I felt like the trio of cow protagonists were like the comic relief sidekicks from some better animated movie. So much of the movie was focused on Maggie and Mrs. Calloway’s petty bickering - it was practically the main “emotional conflict” of the story!
I felt that Alameda Slim was a weak villain compared to the great Disney villains, like Jafar, Ursula and Cruella. It seems to me there has been a dearth of strong Disney villains in the 2000’s, ones who can be as menacing as they can be wacky.
This problem was exacerbated by his gang, The Willies.
“Uncle Slim, Uncle Slim, Uncle Slim, Uncle Slim, Uncle Slim, Uncle Slim!!!”
They’re on my list of least-favorite Disney characters.
How they could have Alan Menken work on the movie and not make it a full fledged musical is beyond me
. The “sad song” montage was a total wannabe Pixar moment. I did actually like the songs themselves pretty well, though.
Overall, it felt to me like the whole movie was going through the motions, the kind of feeling I usually get from Disney knockoffs by other studios.
But the “stallion of the cim-moron” line was hilarious!
.
I enjoyed watching this movie, but when I watched it like 10 times it started getting boring, but as I always say, " A Western Movie Is Never Boring" ![]()
The only thing I considered seeing this movie for was the fact that Alan Menken (the genius who wrote the music in Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Little Shop of Horrors, and others) composed the music.
Is it a good movie other than that? Should I rent it? ![]()

My friends reccomed it to me, and I think you should go and rent it first beofre considering buying it.
Colette Linguini - Home on the Range has its moments, but ,all-in-all, it’s not the most fantastic film in the universe. However, everyone has different opinons on these things. Who knows? You just might like it! I would suggest renting it first, though, just to be “safe”. ![]()

Sheila I think you should rent it, I like it and it is a good movie. Do rent it!
I really want to love “Home On The Range” because it has so much going for it. It has some great voices in it thanks to the lovely Jennifer Tilly, Dame Judi Dench, Randy Quaid, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. It had wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and performed by K.D. Lang and Bonnie Raitt. There was a neat little storyline and some wild West adventure. The animation was refreshingly “biting”(if that’s an accurate term).I really liked those parts of this film.
However, the parts I wasn’t so impressed with are what keep me from giving this movie a recommendation. For all of the great voices in this film, the one voice that shrieked and grated me into insanity was that of Roseanne Barr. Her voice(and attitude, I might add)was annoying. She almost ruined this film with her name alone. The second thing that bugged me about this movie was that Menken’s lovely songs aren’t really that memorable IMO.
i have the dvd but i havn’t have time to sit down and watch it fully.
