It’s just not the type of movie that interests me.
Russell Brand ftw!
Looks alright, I think.
Sounds funny, to say the least. I’ll keep my eye on this.
A couple months out, and still no trailer beyond the energetic-drumming-bunny thing? But an interesting profile of Illumination Entertainment is emerging in small portions. It looks like Illumination is not an “animation studio” but rather is a production company that develops ideas and outsources the animation, similar to Vanguard Animation. Mac Guff in Paris did Despicable Me, and at least the CG portions of Hop are being done by Rhythm & Hues–or so one gathers from disparate Internet sources; Mac Guff’s site doesn’t mention Despicable Me, and Illumination’s site doesn’t mention Hop. At least R&H lists Hop on their site.
So it’s reasonable to guess that Hop will resemble other R&H contributions like Chipmunks, Marmaduke, Aliens In the Attic, etc. In other words, live-action with CG effects and probably a CG star. Which would all be made clearer by a trailer!
Whoa! Somebody specifically asked for me? Cause I have the trailer right here!
Please hold your applause. It’s all in a day’s work.
This looks very bland. Not terrible. Just very bland. Looks like one of those paycheck films for everyone involved. This is a possible rental for me at best unless I hear differently.
Too funny on the timing! It is as if the universe has unfolded like a rainbow streaming across eons and galaxies and coming down to earth in a delicate pile of jelly beans from a bunny’s sensitive areas.
Agreed, aerostarmonk, that looks underwhelming…but it also looks better than anticipated. Here’s another vote for maybe on a rental.
The bunny reminds me of Conker for some reason…mainly the voice. As a result, I won’t be seeing this (not that it looked good anyway)
I applaud Universal for briefly raising my hopes with that cute teaser. Really though, this film looks like a step backward for Illumination. It feels a lot like the Alvin movies.
Hmmm, nope. I didn’t feel it, didn’t feel anything special while watchin it. I’m mostly disinterested by this movie.
You’ve got a problem with Conker, Bryko?
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the visuals, oddly enough. The CG in itself is really good, but I can’t tell if it’s too real or too fake (not exactly sure how to explain?) It blends sort of awkwardly with the live action. Well, it’s better than most CG/live action blends, anyway…
Ehh, I’ll wait for the critical reaction. It seems pretty hit-or-miss. But considering how much I liked Despicable Me, I’ll give it a chance.
Seems okay, I guess.
Nothing special, but not too boring.
Can I just say that I’m impressed with Russell Brand’s voice acting based on the new official trailer ;x
At first I rolled my eyes seeing that he’s becoming what Jack Black is to DreamWorks to Illumination but he’s actually like… I’m just surprised. Seeing the teaser I was freaked out, imagining Brand’s voice to this cute teenage bunny, but he pulls it off. I like his work so far. Just saying.
And this already looks more appealing to me than say Alvin.
Conker? As in, Bad Fur Day/Pocket Tales/Live and Reloaded Conker? What what WHAT nobody mentions Conker without me noticin’! Some lame excuse for a fangirl am I! xD Where was I? Er…
/takes a look at the trailer
Heheh, and I was thinking of you when posting that response.
BUGS BUNNY For The Win!!!
lol, Greatest cartoon character that ever was.
You mean after a certain mouse who wears red trousers, EJE?
I have to admit, Russell Brand’s voice acting is the best since Steve Carrell voicing Gru (which coincidentally, was a character from a film made by the same studio). By good voice acting, I mean that the character sounds nothing like his/her voice actor, which meant that the actor put some effort in sounding different. This means that Jack Black’s Po is not good voice-acting. And say, Nicholas Cage’s Mole from G-Force is good voice-acting.
You get the drift.
Anyway, the trailer was really charming and adorable right until the moment he started pooping candy. Which led to a very similar joke that I saw before in the first Alvin and Chipmunks movie (which coincidentally, was produced by the same director). Then it was all downhill from there.
I find it very difficult to connect with any of the characters, and the setting, action sequences, and plot seems very pedestrian. Like Brand’s last year outing ‘Take Him to the Greek’, but with a bunny rabbit. I’ll give this a miss in cinemas, though I’m up for a rental.
I bet this would sell like hotcakes in Asian markets though, since it’s the Year of the Rabbit. Or should I say, like candy-poopcakes.
Nope, I mean before To each their own!
I was interested in this movie until I saw the trailer. I thought it could have some great characters, and heart felt moments if done right. Now I have no interest in it. But I wish Illumination nothing but the best. It’s nice to have another studio making movies to give us animation lovers more options throughout the year.
My friend Alexis dragged me to see this on Friday, because she loves bunnies.
It actually wasn’t too bad.
It had some funny moments, an awesome soundtrack (We No Speak Americano, anyone?), the animation was great, and Russell Brand was actually a good voice actor.
This movie seems familiar, it’s alot like the Santa Clause, but it might be worth a rental.
