I mean i know humans can hear them talk for a fact, e.g. Sid at the end of number one,
but the toys always seem to have general convos in Andy’s room from the looks of things, obviously when And is not around, but if he’s downstairs, or neaby, like downstaris or something (like at the start of the first one), and ermmm, all the commotion in Sid’s room when the Sid, Hannah etc are downstairs, when the toys are talking among themselves and shout ‘LOOK OUT!’ when Sid blows up the Army dude, when they’re in teh trash bag and Rex panics, Andy’s mum is like on top of them near enough, among other examples…
I’ve always wondered surely poeple like Andy and that must of heard normal talking voices haha, and atleast get very suspicious??? can someone enlighten me and have a reaosn for it or is it a plot hole ??
I’m guessing it’s probably something that Pixar decided to sort of go with- it’s clear that humans can hear toys talk, and you cited a good example with Sid, but it would make the movies very difficult to work out if every single time a human was anywhere near the toys, they couldn’t make a sound at all. Hence it seems to be something that Pixar has brushed under the carpet as such, hoping the audience won’t notice it too much.
Plus considering the size of the toys, I can’t imagine their voices are particularly loud so that might also make a difference. Interesting thread though, Pixarinho*!

I know Andy’s asleep and all, but they’re really yelling! I guess that’s why it got deleted.
I haven’t really notice this till in TS3 were Woody yelled “He was putting you IN THE ATTIC!” & Jessie yelled “He LEFT us on the curve!” & The Mom was right in front of them.[/spoil]
yeah Monte, that was the first time the idea of someone hearing them pulled me out of the movie for a second. I think they should have had them all wisper during that conversation. theirs also the whole time they were being carried to Sunnyside, with Rex pointing out the rainbow on the door. at least in the car you might argue it was being drowned out by the sound of traffic and whatnot, but not so when their just being carried. Mom was literally holding the box they were in and she still doesn’t hear them arguing?
Yeah I forgot about that scene. Also when Andy put the Toys in the trash bag & Rex said “Whats happening?” Then Mr Potato Head yelled “We’re getting thrown out you idiot, that whats happening!”
There’s also the scenes at the airport with Stinky Pete and the Barbie doll… “she’s an artist!”… I would expect that Amy heard that (was that her name?) Anyways, there’s also the part where someone says “Oh, a puppy!” and then Slinky goes “Bark! Bark bark bark bark!” The person had to have heard that.
Well slink was supposed to be impersonating a real dog, so it worked for the gag.
Maybe the toys can “speak” at a sound frequency (or whatever it is called) that humans cannot hear? Kind of like how dogs (and other animals) can hear things that humans cannot.
BUT they can choose to speak directly to humans (at their level of hearing) if they want to, like Woody did with Sid.
That’s how I interpret it.
That’s a stretch. why would they sometimes whisper then, such as in the toy box at the beginning of TS3?
Im Toy Story when Andy’s mom says there find Buzz and Woody in the mouring, Rex and Mr. Potato Head lift the top of the box and start talking quite loudly. Andy must be a light sleeper and fall asleep fast cause he falls asleep 3 seconds after his mom shuts the door.
I guess maybe their voices are just too little to be heard!
Speaking of voices… I wonder if toys have voice-boxes? I mean, except for the ones who already talk through some kind of built-in microphone.
Some aspects of toys are a complete mystery. They can eat without any organs for that, and they can vomit (Rex). I think the fact that toys can come alive and talk in the first place is something that cannot be explained.
Dinoco - aahh I forgot about Rex… you’re right, that makes it even more mysterious. O.o
I’m not convinced rex actually thew up. we never saw anything, he just made the sound and motion. as far as I’m concerned he was just miming it.
They might’ve intended for that, since he was behind the windowsill, but they still are able to eat. They also sleep, even they don’t need to.
When in the movies does it indicate that the toys can eat?
maybe in TS2…when bullseye licking the Al’s snack…
it mean his tongue is feel the taste and also bring the snack’s ingredient to his stomach…haha
Diden’t Buzz say something about S’mores, but called them schmoes.
