I posted this over at UltimateDisney.com, and thought I would also post it, here.
How’s
this for a kick in the grill? On EzyDVD.com, it states that Cars will be released
in a Single-Disc and Two-Disc Edition, both with an exclusive tin, for Region
4!

So,
not only is America not getting this awesome tin, but, we are not getting a Two-Disc Edition!
Well,
Disney, you aren’t getting my money!
Does anybody know if that means it won’t work on American DVD players, or
what?
Because I seriously feel like ordering this no matter how much extra the shipping is.
It means that, unless you have a Region free DVD
player, you won’t be able to play it. On top of that, even if you have a Region free DVD player, if your
television set is NTSC (Region 1 standard), the video may not look very good. I’m not an expert on this, so,
someone else with knowledge of this type of situation could give more information.
I would LOVE to have
that Two-Disc set, with that tin!
Odds are this means US, Canada, & everywhere else will
get a two-disc, but it really is still a shame that they had to put this kind of fiasco on us. Aw, but at least
it does appear that a two-disc IS in the works . . .
As for Regions, here’s a list of mine I use
alot:
Region I - United States, Canada, and United States
Territories
Region II - Japan, Europe, South Africa, Egypt, and the Middle
East
Region III - Southeast Asia, and East Asia
Region
IV - Oceania, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the
Carribean
Region V - Eastern Europe, India, Africa, North Korea, and
Mongolia
Region VI - China
Region VII -
Reserved
Region VIII - Special International Venues, such as airlines and
cruiseships
I HATE the region
system. I’m sure there’s some legal copying… conspiracy that makes them do that… but I just think it’s the
most annoying thing ever. There’s this store where I live that sells a lot of Asian dvds but the problem is…
most of them are Region III (I’m Region I…). You can play them on your computer though (most of the time).
But… it’s not the same.
Yeah most new DVD players now are multiregional i am pretty sure, and most newer
tv’s (i’m guessing 2003+) are both NTSC and PAL compatiable. But you might just have to check out your tv and
dvd player on the net to see if they are compatiable.
This is strange because, as far as I’m concerned, with
previous Pixar films, although the covers might have been different for different countries and regions, it
seemed as though the different editions were the same worldwide. Why are they releasing the two disk version only
for region 4?

Argh,
this is so confusing! But I want that collector’s tin! sniff
Yeah, it looks so COOL!!!
The tin is indeed awesome, but I still prefer that German poster as a cover…
Actually, this heartens
me. If they’re doing a 2-disc release for Australia, then it’s far more likely they’ll do one for Regions 1
and 2. The very existance of a 2-disc set anywhere makes it easier to make more.
No not all Cars DVD’s will be 2 disc. This is the
Aussie Cars DVD in an exclusive tin from EzyDVD(they make the tins for lots of movies now), so its only available
through them, and they also have the Cars Tin with a bonus disc. So its not really an official second disc and
as far as BVHE are concerned, they are releasing Cars 1 disc dvd’s in Australia and worldwide.
You may be right, but
if EzyDVD is doing it, then what’s to stop other shops in other countries doing it? We may just get 2 discs
after all, even if the second isn’t ‘official’.
May be a chance that some retailer such as Best Buy
may get the tin case in as an exclusive. And maybe other retailers may get a 2 disc one in as a bonus as well.
But I dunno, I have a strange feeling Disney will be releasing a 2 disc version before Ratatouille opens in
June.

w00t! Am I glad I spend 50 euro’s more on my home theatre system to get a region free DvD player. As soon as
its released im gonna order it somehow.
Well, at least now there’s hope that they might release a 2-disc version elsewhere… until
then, I’m notsettling for a one-disc. …Let’s see how well I hold out…

According to the
upcomingpixar blog, EzyDVD covers Virgin Entertainment and HMV. Hurray! They may just make European versions
!(And American, if Virgin/HMV operate there, I don’t know) Got to keep hoping…
