Now we know what to expect in the coming years as far as the How To Train Your Dragon franchise, thanks to DreamWorks themselves. They weren’t very specific about TV show details or explaining what on Earth the ‘live arena show’ or ‘virtual world’ will be.
As far as the the sequel that will be out in 2013, the phrasing “the first sequel and next chapter” gives reason to believe we have another Madagascar/Shrek on our hands. Or you could even relate it to the Lilo and Stitch franchise, considering it’s Chris Sanders. Except hopefully these sequel(s) will be so well developed with fantastic plots that none of them are straight to DVD like the Lilo and Stitch sequels.
…Does anyone else feel like the sequel will just be awkward? Especially considering Hiccup’s ending? He accomplished his goal, he proved himself, he mended his relationship with his father, he got the girl, [spoil]he lost a limb[/spoil]… If that’s not a one shot film I don’t know what is x]
I loved the movie, I’ve been seeing it in theaters every week, I’d say I’m a pretty big fan. But I’m not sure all these ideas are good ones. I’m especially afraid of what the movies that follow will be centered around. Does anyone want to see a NICE Astrid? Her appeal was what a BA she was. The only way I feel a plot with conflict can be written is if everything was aged a few years from now, but I’m especially terrified that it might be based on a Hiccup Haddock IV! No thank you! Hopefully they realize that their teen viking characters are just too good to throw away. Obviously by following the Shrek films they seem to come up with SOMETHING to keep putting out films.
Would the television show be a The Adventures Of type of series? Pre-film, so we can just laugh at Hiccup being foolish every week? …If it’s post film it wouldn’t be so much fun [spoil]laughing at the cripple[/spoil]. ;x Sorry. So I’m hoping it’s pre-movie if it features the Hiccup and the teens, maybe something like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin series (Tarzan, Emperor’s New School, etc etc) Where it solitudes the plot of vikings on the island of Berk and doesn’t fit in with the movie plot at all. …Except considering Toothless has such a huge fan base would they try to fit him in somehow? Why watch a show that’s post-film if we have sequels coming up? It can’t be like the Penguins of Madagascar, considering there weren’t any characters so minor as them. Astrid, Snotlout and so on were way too featured and it’d be weird to have a show with them and NOT Hiccup.
The live arena show is perhaps something for Universal Studios? When I think of live arena shows The Hunchback of Notre Dame comes to mind, with the wooden set that Quasi climbed all over and sang out the story in the middle of Disneyland. Except HTTYD isn’t a music. So perhaps more of a fake dragon show, with lots of fog machines, no canon characters, just a ‘live viking host’.
Sorry to throw all this out there at once. Thanks for your opinions!
