Humans in Toy Story 3

I wonder if Pixar will use realistic humans in Toy Story 3 like they did in the first two films, or if they will use caricatured humans like the ones in Up and The Incredibles.

They will probably use realistic humans like in the first two films so the characters will look the same. {Plus, I’d be really disapointed if they used humans like in TI and Ratatouille. } Also, welcome to PixarPlanet! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks! If they do use realistic humans, hopefully they will improve the animation and make them less creepy.

I think they’ll use humans like Al from Toy Story; detailed, but the proportions are very strange and somewhat cartoonish so it’s not “so realistic it’s creepy”. They really nailed avoided the “uncanny valley” as it’s called with Al.

That is true, but I think Andy and his mom are very creepy.

Yeah, they are a little…But I definitely think that the humans improved in Toy Story 2 but they still were recognisable as humans from Toy Story. So I think that Pixar will carry on with the more life-like humans but any new characters will probably have those cartoonish proportions that Bryko614 mentioned.

Well people are always begging for Pixar to make a movie with realisitc humans to see how well they do, but hopefully they won’t listen to that. Trying to do realistic humans would just make it look worse years from now.

Yeah I agree with 1986 .

I enjoy the non-realistic cartoony aspect of pixar. They have a way of making things LOOK like what it’s supposed to but not so much that its uncanny, and doesn’t keep the animation spark that we all love!

I would really like to see where they go with this one. To see how updated Woody, Buzz, and all the humans look compared to the last two.

I’m pretty sure that they would use realistic humans.
It just wouldn’t be the same Toy Stories if they didn’t. =/

I’m guessing they’re going to stick to the style of previous TS movies pertaining to this issue. If they make improvements, then if it’s not subtle, it’s not going to fit in with the other movies. If they improve the humans, they also have to improve Woody, Buzz & the gang, and that’ll look awkward altogether.

I think animation has improved a lot since TS. The eyes, the skin, the motion… can be adjusted with the original style to make it believable now. Since The Incredibles Pixar human isn’t creepy anymore though they start to have that distinct “Pixar” look in general.

If they push it though, I think to be a little more cartoon (not too stylized as Incredibles) is better than trying to make them overtly realistic (you can’t do it in an animated film about talking toys, or else just go and film a live action with real people and real toys).

It’s about the toys anyway. They can use stock models for human if they want.

I agree with JD. I think that they will keep the basic look of the characters, but they will try to make them a little more cartoonish.

Andy and Sally(?) certainly must look quite a bit different after 10+ years anyway.

lol, Toy story has never had realistic humans. Their problems were never that they weren’t realistic enough though, they just didnt have the skill or technology for it yet during Toy Story. and I know its been said but I think the humans were much improved in toy story 2. I know most think of Al as the best example, but even just looking at Andy and his Mom they were much better.

. it was obvious they tried to hide the mom in the first one as much as possible, but once they got some basic cloth and hair sim they both looked so much better. and of course the animation itself helped. they pretty much redesigned the mom if you compare the two closely. her whole head is different, but close enough to make people not realize. Andy’s hair went from chia pet esk to having cowlicks and a flow to it. not to mention more believable clothing as I mentioned. they made them more believable in general.

believable but not realistic. the humans in toy story have always been characterd. I mean, just look at em. their eyes are big, heads are bean shaped, and usually pretty massive, their necks are quite skinny and I’m sure I could go on. their caricatures. it might not be as stylised as the incredibles, but its there if you want to see it.

I do think the humans will improve a lot in toy story 3, but it’ll be one of those things where you wont be able to point it out, but you’ll feel it, you’ll know their better. I’m thinking the main difference outside of animation is they’ll apply the latest lighting scattering thing they’ve been using since the incredibles to give skin the translucency it needs to look more believable.
