When do you suppose humans left Earth? The BnL website has a date at the bottom that says 2057, but it takes place 700 years into the future and the year was 2700. I’m confused…
In some interview or Q&A I’ve read Stanton saying “800 years in the future”, so I think the Earth evacuation will happen in 2100 (+ 700 years of WALL-E scooping trash)
You can’t say that the humans left now, because we haven’t even got to the stage of building a mega spaceship. Also our technology isn’t that advanced. I would say that the humans left around the years 2200-2300.
I honestly dont remember when they said the year was. They said 700 years and I just didnt think about it. Although they could be just rounding, instead of saying 643 or whatever years…
Although the trailers say 700 years from now, think “now” refers to “human civilization on earth.” I’m pretty sure Wall-E was created in 2105 and the film takes place in 2805. So humans must have left around 2105. Either way, the film is trying to say that it’s not too far before we pollute the earth so much that we have to leave. Lesson: be kind to the earth!
I also swear I’ve heard the number 2805 in interviews with Pixar employees before, and no where in any official synopsis that I’ve read has it ever said 2700. Can somebody else second this?
It was this synopsis: “The year is 2700, and planet Earth has long been uninhabitable…”
I think it was released before the “International Trailer” and maybe it was a mistake by Disney Marketing. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Oh, and thanks for the article, great find!
