I don't get it.

So I get random thoughts in the shower, and I was randomly thinking about that part on Cars after Sally takes McQueen out for a drive, and like two seconds after she leaves, Mater pops outta nowhere and says, “If anyone ask you, we was out smashing mailboxes, okay?!!”

And then for no reason, tractors appear and start wrecking the town.

I know this is supposed to somewhat lead into McQueen finding Doc and stuff all alone on the dirt track, but what the heck with the random tractors?! It’s so disconnected and doesn’t flow with what was just happening. Does anyone else find this part of the movie a little strange, possibly even unneccessary? Couldn’t they have come up with a more fluent scene for this part of the film? Even my parents were a little confused about that awkward transition when we first watched the movie.

If there’s already a topic about this or similar questions, please direct me there. Thanks!

Mater was actually out cow tipping and accidentally let them out.

Well, I knew that… but even if he were, it wasn’t mentioned earlier, and it just pops outta nowhere, which really throws me off. It’s just not a fluent transition (well, there are actually several parts of that movie that don’t seem fluent, anyway…).

Maybe I’m just overspeculating.

Yeah,you kinda are…

But really yeah, you’re over-thinking this.

Yeah I think ya are too, but I see what you’re saying.

I’ve always thought of Radiator Springs being known for its randomness. And just because the movie is really about Lightning McQueen and follows where his is, what he’s doing, and what happens to him doesn’t mean the other characters have to be parked somewhere and not doing anything. Ya know? They don’t have to stop all they’re doing just to sit and watch Lightning. They have interests and things they like to and have to do too. Mater likes to go tractor tipping. Just because Lightning’s in town doesn’t mean Mater has to follow him and not do anything on his own. Everything doesn’t revolve around Lightning McQueen or where we’re at with him. Sally was supposed to be “watching” him anyway. That random tractor scene just shows what happens in Radiator Springs. I think it went naturally with the movie. Plus it’s funny. Leave it to Mater to shake things up! :unamused:

Ka-chow! :whip:

I don’t think you’re overthinking this. We’re Pixar fans, overthinking things about Pixar movies is what we do! XD

I do think it is kinda random how Mater comes up like that with out any warning, but at the same time, it’s a fun little thing to infer. I mean, if you were told everything that was happening in a movie, what would be the fun in watching it? It may seem random at first, yes, but it’s at least something to show that Radiator Springs isn’t always boring! Also, like Sally Jonson said, this movie focuses on Lightning. It doesn’t have to follow all of the characters! We already know Mater goes tractor tipping, so it makes sense to put that in there! If we didn’t know he loved to tractor tip, then it would be random, and make no sense.

It’s sort of meant to be a joke, I guess, something random and unexpected. Not only are the audience left thinking ‘lolwut’, but so is Lightning, making the situation all the more funny as absolutely no-one but Mater actually knows what’s going on.

It may seem random, but that’s just what Mater does when there’s nothing else to do. And based on Sheriff’s reaction, I’d say it’s happened before.

Well, one of the tractors goes astray and Lightning chases after it, which leads to him discovering Doc secretly trying out racing again and so on.
