I like Cars

But every character needs a terrible trait, so they can fix it. Woody is pretty self centered in the original, too, anyway.

The film would lose a lot of its power and meaning if Lightning were always a good guy.

Great, my post got lost…this is why I HATE computers.

No, your post is still there.

No, I mean a response to your post about how the early version of Woody was a terrible guy who yelled at Slinky and was cruel to all the toys, and that the Woody we have now is better than that one, and Woody only wants things to stay the same…which might come across as self-centeredness but really isn’t…

And also how Lightning McQueen is the definition of “self-centered” in the Pixar dictionary…Pixar cannot create a character more self-centered than Lightning McQueen was.

I think the real problem is that there is no likeable character in the beginning of Cars to balance out Lightning’s disgusting love of himself. Mack doesn’t cut it.

…Woody was pretty self centered through the first half of Toy Story. I don’t think it’s disputable. But, either way, if Lightning was a perfect guy, what would the point of the movie be?

I don’t think he should have been perfect…I think there should have been someone in the beginning to make Lightning’s flaws a little less extravagant. If you must insist on Woody being self-centered, there is the thing that from the beginning of Toy Story, you have Rex, Hamm, Slinky, and Mr. Sarcastic with a Potato for a Head, who all make Woody’s being self-centered not so bad.

I think the worst part of Cars is when Lightning reflects on the Rusteeze commercial and cares about other people thinking he’s pathetic. I hate it when people care about what others think as to what they do. One should be what they are, like what they like. That’s why on these boards, I will say how much I dislike Up, but I will not tell people they are idiots for liking it. People on this board haave said such to me, and they think I’M rude. I just give my opinions or my thoughts on Pixar’s products.

I think one guy on IMDB summed it up best when he said that we all love Pixar, even if we do not like some of the things they have made. I think Cars is one of the most brilliant things Pixar came up with.

The whole story of Cars was centered around Lightning’s journey from being a self-centered celebrity in the fast lane to how he ended up in the end. I more down to Earth car, with friends in the slow lane.

Same in Toy Story. The story is centered around Woody’s journey from being the big shot, favorite toy, to coming to terms with this new cooler toy. Like Virginia said, there is no debate about that.

Yes, but Woody is still someone I would love to be friends with all throughout Toy Story. Lighting McQueen is someone who deserves a slap in the face. Although I don’t know what a slap for cars would be…saying that they are the same is silly. Lighting had ZERO positive characterstics in the beginning. He tells Mack to stay up all night for example, but he can’t stay up himself. You are telling me that I should accept that Lightning has flaws, and I do, but it shouldn’t be one sided. The main focal character should not be completely flawed from the beginning. I seriously wanted to take a hammer and smash Lightning’s windows.

Woody, on the other hand, was someone to look up to. You can’t say that every character must have flaws if you also say not every character needs good qualities from their introduction.

I can see what you mean. There was a reason for Woody to be a jerk. That doesn’t make it right, but he was threatened. Lightning bothered me in the film, but that’s one reason he interested me so much. I’m glad at the end of the film he was a nice dude, who I’d like to chill with.

Eh, I think I agree to a certain extent, but it’s probably just because Woody’s problem is more identifiable for us. Lightning doesn’t have as much of a reason for behaving the way he does at the start, whereas Woody has to make some strict adjustments early on.

I see what you mean now. But Woody was used to being respected, then all of the sudden-BOOM-he’s not in charge anymore. Lightning was a jerk out of arrogance from being a very famous race car. There wasn’t any logical or emotional reason for this, it was an evolved bad habit. So showing his good side wouldn’t have helped prove the point of his arrogance any.

Lover-Of-Fiction:You can express your opinions in a non-snide way, thank you very much… Honestly…

Haha, yeah saying one wants to smash Lightning’s windows is a bit…violent!

Anyway, I don’t want another fight to start out, so remember to be respectful when posting ones opinions, kay guys? Thanks!

Yeah,LOF,how would you like it if I said I wanted to slap you,of smash your car’s windows? Exactly…If you can’t be respectful about anything, don’t say nothing at all:confused:

Okay, let’s calm down a notch. Kenzie already reprimanded Lover, and that’s good enough. He hasn’t said anything since, so let’s just leave it.

IV,this was over a long time ago…

Sorry. Didn’t see the date there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you girls are handling this like grown-ups.

Anyway, I’m really interested to see how Radiator Springs has changed since the first movie!

I would like to know as well. I just can’t picture it as a major tourist place. I mean I know it’s good and it’s what they want and all but I sort of like how it was before. I just really enjoy that close-knit community feeling.
