WHY is Cars
getting such bad reviews? Is it really a bad film? Is it less than people have expected? I haven’t seen it
personally, and I’m having doubts on whether Pixar have really performed with this film. There are lots of
people who are saying that Cars was amazing, etc., but so many more seem to be disappointed. Why?
Hmm…I don’t know what to say.
I haven’t heard about any bad reviews for Cars.
You should definitely go see it because it’s a great
movie.

I, personally, don’t agree with the bad reviews given to Cars. It sounds as if
they’re dying to be the first ones to prove that Pixar can actually make a bad film.
Cars is an amazing
film, and ironically, deals with a much more human story than any other Pixar movie (yes, I include The
Incredibles). It deals with the bypassed towns of Route 66, which happened in real life. Not only that, but like
all Pixar films, it has a lot of laughs, amazing animation (best CG animation I’ve ever seen), and above all…
tremendous heart. I was very moved by Cars, and it made me appreciate the road a lot more, and the beauty of
nature.
Perhaps those who didn’t like it were unable to get past the fact that the world had no humans
(I heard many complaints about how cars can’t talk, they need humans to drive them, etc.) and find the deeper
meaning. If you find it, then you will see the true beauty of this film. Definitely belongs with the best of
Pixar.
I don’t understand how they can say the cars cannot emit as much emotion as their other characters.
What about the fish. They have fins. Sure they used them like arms but the Cars use their wheels and give small
gestures by turning them etc. As much emotion comes from the Cars as from the fish.
Bad reviews compared to what? “Cars” has a 76 percent approval rate on
RottenTomatoes.com and got the coveted “Certified Fresh” rating, which is better than just about any
movie in theaters right now.

I haven’t seen many bad
reviews. The worst (yet the funniest) was "The director from 'Doc Hollywood called. The want their plot
back." And the rest of the review goes on to say how Cars has the same plot of Doc Hollywood.
(Doc
Hollywood plot (from IMBd): Benjamin Stone is a young doctor driving to L.A where he was offered a new job as a
plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. He gets off the highway to avoid a traffic jam,
but gets lost and ends up crashing into a fence in the small
town of Grady. He is sentenced to 32 hrs of community
service at the local hospital. All he wants is to serve the sentence and get
moving, but gradually the locals become attached to the new doctor, and he falls for the pretty
ambulance driver, Lou. Will he leave?
(I bolded similarities) And for the sake of that movie, I hope ‘Lou’
is not a man.
I’ve seen reviews that say
that all of the characters in Cars are stereotypical- there’s the Italian one, the hillbilly, the love interest,
etc. They’ve also been saying that although the animation is great, the storyline is disappointing, boring even,
and that Cars does not live up to any of its predecessors.
I agree with all of you, though, that it seems
as though there are some people who don’t want Pixar to do well; that just can’t believe that Pixar have made
yet ANOTHER great film. There are also those who may not like the genre of cars itself, and therefore downgrade
the film on that. I’m definitely going to see it now, especially after what you have all said, and I think I’ll
just judge it for myself.
Hey, I
saw that article! In fact, that’s the one that’s pinned to my bulletin board, the one I mentioned in the
“How obsessed with Cars are you” thread!
I don’t know about anyone else, but all the
negative reviews about Cars bother me. Aggie said it well already; Cars is an excellent movie. I just don’t
understand why critics are being so harsh.
Maybe Pixar’s inability to make a bad film scares them.
On the bright side, the critics seem to be the only ones with anything bad to say. Everyone I’ve talked
to who has seen the movie has loved it.
Here’s a
great review I found online. This
person makes some excellent points about Pixar’s storytelling abilities.
I finally managed to see Cars, and I loved every moment! I don’t see what all of these
critics are moaning about- it’s a great film!
