I would like to have a question answered

I don’t know if

anybody noticed , but during the nemo commentary , they kept calling marlin " father " . Is this a

cowinkydink (coincedence ) , or is there a reason for this ?

I haven’t watched the commentary in a while, but I think

it’s fairly obvious that it’s simply because Marlin is Nemo’s father. Marlin represents fatherhood itself,

and so he’s not just “Marlin,” but the universal “father,” as well.

They called him father? I thought it would make sense. Ad Delf pointed out, he

is the father to Nemo. But to tell you the truth, I have never heard the commentary to Nemo before.

I think

that’s because “Marlin” was a pretty late addition to the movie. I think they just called him

“Father” throughout production and came up with his name at more or less the last minute. I reckon they

did the same thing with Sulley, as everyone seemed to call him “Sullivan”.

RMS is right- they just didn’t

have a name for Marlin, and so therefore referred to him as ‘father’. I like DElf’s idea of Marlin

representing fatherhood generally, though.

But the

thing about delf’s is that they called marlin father and just called nemo ’ nemo ’ . If they called nemo son ,

then I would agree .

Yeah, but Nemo’s name

is in the title, Marlin’s isn’t. :stuck_out_tongue: Plus, the film does revolve more around Marlin’s fatherhood than it does

about Nemo’s childhood. They’re both factors, true, but Marlin’s fatherly aspect is more central to the whole

theme of the film.

There you

go. The sequel- Locating Marlin. Anyway, I remember while I was reading my Art of Nemo book that Marlin was

always called Father so I just assumed that later on they just decided to give him a name…

Even though in the FN commentary they did

mention Marlin as “Father” throughout a good portion of the commentary, he pretty much didnt have a

name than to be known as on the movie during the early developmental stages of the production.

Either way,

I Do and Would refer to him as Father of

Nemo more than anything else besides the use of only ‘“Father”’. Especially in terms

of the production and story process of FN.

It’s probably because Marlin is Nemo’s father.
