You’re welcome. I’m glad you understand. I hope I didn’t come off as rude, I just wanted to make my point.
Also, could people stop saying that Cars fans are more provoked than others? This is a false statement and something that I’m not even gonna waste time talking about. Honestly, please don’t bring this up on my thread. If that’s what you think that’s fine but please don’t bring it up here.
Lightning being a jerk was part of the plot. The end. If that bothers some people, then that’s fine. Some people have difficulties relating to less polite characters. I like Lightning(and most characters like him), but I see what SullyMike means.
I’m sorry. I wasn’t fighting about the whole Lightning being a jerk thing at all. It just bothers me when people take it as Cars fans being over-sensitive etc, etc. You’re right though, fighting is useless. If I could change one thing…I would make the movie longer.
No, I didn’t mean you! Sorry, I would be more specific about that, but I keep getting warnings, so…I shouldn’t. And personally, I think most of you Cars guys are awesome. And I sooner side with the people who like Cars than those who don’t, because, well, I like it too. But any time anyone says anything critical of it, there’s a huge fight. It’s annoying. But what I said had nothing to do with you. Sorry for the confusion.
I agree wholeheartedly. Lightening being a jerk added a great amount of character to the movie, and essentially drove the movie’s plotline. The problem seems to be is that people hate him on a personal level, and then in turn hate his entire character. I for one thought it was refreshing to have an arrogant protagonist who was a ‘jerk’. It shows that the writers have a good understanding of what to do and what not to do. Frankly, having every character in the movie be the messiah is a Mary Sure type belief. A Mary sue is a ‘perfect’ character, whether physically or mentally, that can do no wrong. This is what I think we should avoid.
A good example of a great protagonist Is Wilkus from District 9. he was a selfish, racist fool who cared mainly about himself even when he had the offer to save a species of oppressed aliens. This is a sign of great writing, because it displays true human emotions. Did I hate Wilkus as a person? You bet. Did I hate him as a character? Heck no! He displayed the qualities of any normal person being slowly transformed into the alien beings which he loathed.
So, really, complaining that Queen is a bad character and getting mad over it is absurd. He’s a good character who fits in with his backstory.
Great point Methuselah. It makes the story more real. In the real world we aren’t all happy-go-lucky. There are people out there like McQueen. The point was to show his journey to change. Otherwise how would they have made a movie out of it? And yes, let’s relax a bit. We can still have this debate but in a more civilized way.
I agree entirely, Methuselah. He was a jerk, but he can’t be a perfect nice guy all the time. Look at Woody from Toy story. He’s a jerk, and I don’t see anyone whining about him. And I agree about Wilkus. I found him slightly relatable(the flawed personality, not the Racist part.)
Might as well work it out. It’s a whole lot easier than holding a grudge! Nah, it’s not worth losing friends or getting people mad at you over something as simple as a movie you know?
Well, I think there is a handful of us who do, so it’s just up to us to try and keep things in control when it comes to fights. Then if it really gets out of hand we just let the mods take over.
Yeah…but we aren’t perfect Pixarteers. If we were, no one would come here because we’d be boring, having the same opinions on movies and such. Our dysfunctionality makes this place fun! But the fights oh-so-do need to stop.
I know. I hate it so much because I know that for every crazy Cars fan there is a crazy fan for every other movie. Maybe they aren’t on this site but they’re out there. And it doesn’t have anything to do with the movie, it’s just the personality of some people. It’s not their fault and like Sully said it’s a part of the site. I hear you about the fandom label too. It drives me crazy.
