I'm glad that Barbie was strong and smart In TS3

It was nice that they don’t have Barbie being shallow and a dumb blonde in TS3.[spoil]She did fell in love with Ken . She chose her friends over him when she found out what he, Lotso and other henchmen to her friends.[/spoil] I am glad that she chose the good side over the bad side. I’m glad that [spoil]she used her brains to trick Ken and distract him,.[/spoil] It was brillant that [spoil] she tied Ken up.[/spoil] I love how [spoil]she got Ken telling about what Lotso did to Buzz and how she & her friends can switch Buzz back by ripping up some of Ken’s clothes[/spoil] [spoil]Her speech to Lotso [/spoil]was wonderful. Barbie played an important part during the escape from Sunnyside, I am glad that she wasn’t a damsel in distress.

I agree BarbieandKenfan!

I think Pixar did an amazing job with Barbie. She is often considered one of the main reasons that so many young women are under so much pressure to be skinny and dote over their images in an unhealthy manner. I love how Pixar made her strong and independent. [spoil]By choosing to stay with her friends and not Ken[/spoil], she proves that she can think on her own and does not need to rely on a man. I also love how crafty and clever she is in this film; [spoil]she completely fools Ken into dressing into his various outfits to distract him and save Buzz, and she does it all on her own[/spoil]! Barbie is quite the actress! [spoil]Then she cleverly wore one of Ken’s outfits to the Bookworm![/spoil] Of course, she did forget to change her shoes, but hey, we all make mistakes. Then, in my opinion, one of the best moments of the film was definitely[spoil] her speech to Lotso[/spoil], which proved her intelligence. I could not stop laughing when [spoil]Hamm and Potato Head (I believe it was these two) exchanged that look of “Where did that come from?”[/spoil] In an essence, Pixar acknowledges that there is a stereotype around Barbie, but then they expertly crafted her into an intelligent, independent woman, and poked fun at how people in our world always assume things.

I loved Barbie.
Pixar portrayed her as a strong, independant and intelligent woman, not just a pretty face.

And I agree with you, love70ways, [spoil]Barbie’s speech and Hamm and Potato Head’s “Wait, what?” look[/spoil] was one of the best parts of the movie.

I thought Barbie was great in TS3 (and Tour Guide Barbie was also lots of fun in TS2).

I also liked that she was a well-rounded character, although it would have been interesting to know more about her time with Molly (especially as she appeared to be Molly’s last true “toy” (or at least doll) that Molly had kept through all the years) and how much she had interacted with Andy’s toys (both as a “toy” and when the humans weren’t around) since they were kept in separate rooms and it appeared that Andy’s toys had been stuck in the toy box for quite some time.

I must admit, I do wish she had been a little more kick-azz (perhaps more like the Sarah Connor-esque Barbie which was originally planned to be in TS1 and who would have been the one to rescue Woody and Buzz from Sid’s house), but she did prove herself to be smart and strong in the end.

Finally, I kind of wish that Barbie (and Ken) had joined Andy’s toys for the “finale”, although I understand that it was obviously important to just focus on Andy’s toys who we had come to know and love for years and that they needed to separate Ken and Barbie from the others in order to conclude the film the way they did.

I also think Barbie and Ken stayed behind for two other reasons. [spoil]Firstly, [/spoil][spoil]with Lotso no longer in power, it made sense for Ken to stay and try and rehabilitate Sunny Side and to bring in a kinder and groovier 8D way of doing things. Ken appeared, at least to me, to be the most capable of transitioning from the reign of Lotso. Also, I think the moment when Jessie and Mrs. Potato head urged Barbie to stay was Ken was very important. It provided an oppurtunity for true love to ring true, and was also very touching. The two ladies said it was okay that Barbie was leaving, because they knew it is what she truly wanted in her heart (to be with Ken, not to just leave the gang). That selflessness was inspiring to me. You could tell that Barbie had a friend in Jessie and Mrs. P.[/spoil]

Yup, Mattel definately wouldn’t be dissappointed with Barbie’s portrayal. She was very intelligent, maybe even a little bit too much (her speech to Lotso was hilarious).

any of you guys remembered mattel announced a split of barbie n ken some years ago… n then i think half-way pixar talked to mattel tat they wanted to put barbie n ken in ts3… so mattel announced that barbie n ken are together again… and here came toy story 3…

I agree, it was nice to see Barbie’s brain.

I do remember Barbie and Ken splitting up! I thought it was rather funny 8D

I’m glad that Barbie did the right thing and was loyal to her friends. Because of her, [spoil]Ken realized that love and compassion were better than power and dictatorship. He realize that he want to be with her rather following Lotso,[/spoil] I’m glad that she was the cause of [spoil]Ken reforming in the end.[/spoil] She is more than a pretty face and a nice figure

This is probably the most hilarious thing I’ve read all day.

Actually my mum said that older Barbies had molded on high heels so changing shoes probably wasn’t even an option. More Pixar genius!

I know I’m not adding much, but basically I really agree with everything you guys have said. It would have been so easy for Pixar to make Barbie the dumb blonde that she appears to be, but Toy Story 3’s Barbie really is one of a kind- intelligent and strong and though she does wear her heart on her sleeve, she can be sly too. I love her.

I’m sure most studios outside of PIXAR wouldn’t have given Barbie as much depth.

I think some were figuring she might be ditzy given how she’s crying her eyes out about being thrown away and then getting all giggly with Ken.

I have to wonder if PIXAR received and notes from Mattel during the story process on what Barbie would and would not do.

Toy Story is the only reason I have any respect for Barbie again. I absolutely adored her in the third film.

I agree with basically everything that’s already been said. I love how they used both the stereotypes associated with Barbie whilst also making her behave in unexpected ways. She was awesome in Toy Story 3!
