"In a world" without Don LaFontaine (1940-2008)

One man. One voice. One loss. :frowning:

Don LaFontaine passed away September 1 due to lung complications.

He lent his distinctive mighty voice for countless movie trailers and television ads. You can watch the man in action performing a self-parody for his recent GEICO commercial.

Rest in peace, Mr. LaFontaine.

Wow, his voice has been everywhere and done everything! It must be one of the most recognisable tones on the planet.

Rest in peace, Don LaFontaine. At least your work will live on and be appreciated.

Thanks for posting PV

This is so terribly sad. One third of the ā€œVoices of Godā€ gone, leaving only Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones.

I read somewhere that he has done over 5000 movie trailer and 750,000 TV commercials.

RIP Don :frowning:

Oh well. He had a great voice. Compared to him, i don’t think anyone was as good. But we’ll find someone else eventually.

He was very nice to have done all those announcements for us. :sunglasses:

I was quite surprised to hear this saddening news. I’ve always loved listening to Mr. LaFontaine commentate during film trailers for years, and now he’s gone. I’m going to miss that guy…

Rest in peace, sir, and my condolences to his family and friends.

I was really sad to hear the news that he died. I hope that Mr. LaFontaine is in a better place now. My prayers go to his family, friends and all he touched.

He died too?! As soon as I saw that Geico commercial I realized that he was the definitive voice of 21st century entertainment. This is very sad. I’m sure everyone will eventually miss him once they realize he’s gone.

Wait… he died of lung complications? :exclamation: :open_mouth:

MAN! It’s so sad when all the people who worked on the classics and originals pass away. Its like a whole era is dieing. When John Lassiter and all the other Pixar originals die, I’m gonna be so sad.

The baby boomers have fifteen years to go until their average life expectancy is over. Then the torch will pass on to us. Let’s make sure we do a good job of cleaning up after our parents’ mess.

I will miss hearing Don’s voice on television. But tomorrow’s a new day!

RIP Don.

he will be a great loss in the movie preview world.
we will miss him…our prayers are with his family.

According to ETonline:

ā€œLaFontaine’s agent, Vanessa Gilbert, tells ET that he passed away following complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity, the result of a collapsed lung. The official cause of death has not yet been released.ā€

I recognize his voice announcing from countless movie trailers! I may sound dumb here, but now I know who he is that announced them. It’s unbelievable that he’s passed away recently.
RIP Don ; hope you enjoy being in a better place. Your work here when you were alive will not be forgotten.
And RIP that voice that will be no more ): I don’t know if movie previews will be the same without him. Hopefully there will be someone else. Of course, it won’t be the same.

MAN THIS SUCKS!!!

All the awesome people are leaving us this year!!!

  1. Heath ā€˜The Joker’ Ledger
  2. Bernie Mac
  3. Isaac Hayes
  4. And now, that AWESOME ANNOUNCER GUY!!!

Dangit, man!

According to my calculation, the Baby Boomer generation has an average of 15 more years until they reach their life expectancy. :open_mouth:
