Inside jokes

One thing I LOVE about the people at Pixar is the way they like to poke fun at

themselves and intertwine movie themes.

We’ve all seen inside jokes like the boy reading the Mr.

Incredible comic in the dentist’s waiting room in Finding Nemo, Andy’s cloud wallpaper in Randall’s camouflage

prep for a day of scaring, and the Lightyear tires donned by Lightning McQueen. I only listed a few of my

favorites, but there are numerous gags inserted into each movie by the good folks at Pixar to give fans an extra

thrill.

Here’s a thread for pointing out such things, even stuff that some of us might not have been able

to spot.

~~=oP

I loved that scene in Cars where we catch a glimpse of the birds from “For the Birds” sitting on a

telephone wire…

A really obvious one but all the jokes at the end of cars… hahah… the

Mike Car was cute…

"We’re banished, genius! Stuck out in the wasteland without

chains!"

It’s not really a reference to other Pixar stuff, but I always found it funny that the bug

bar in A Bug’s Life is a can for “Fat-Free Lard,” if I remember correctly. And just to make a sad

attempt at tying it in to Pixar in-jokes I’ll mention the Pizza Planet cup that’s lying on top of the bar and

falls off when it starts rolling.

If you

look at the degrees and awards on the walls of the dentist’s office, you can see that he attended Pixar

University. There’s also the way that Syndrome walks that is patterned after John Walker’s(?) gait…

There’s also lots of references to Emeryville, CA…

the location of Pixar Studios. (Too lazy to look them all up…).

I know of two . . .

in Cars, where we see the town Welcoming Sign, and in the The Incredibles, where Helen presses the button on the

Homing Device . . . the little map points to Emeryville, and not Nomanisan.

I think that the homing map points to Emeryville when E’s

showing Helen the device. Otherwise, Helen would just think that Bob was back at home, instead of cavorting

around a remote jungle island.

I’m not

sure about the homing device, but aren’t the streets on Bob’s GPA system at the beginning all around

Emeryville?

I love the little toy Nemo Jack-Jack has in all the promotional pictures, even though it

wasn’t in the film, and Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston’s cameos.

Oh!

That reminds me of the scenes in Boo’s bedroom in Monster’s Inc. where Boo is showing Sulley all her toys

including the Luxo ball, Jessie from TS, and a little Nemo I believe.

You know what?? I

bet you’re right . . . I remembered it was SOME map!

Besides those, I also love the books "Tin

Toy," “Red’s Dream,” “Knick Knack,” & “A Bug’s Life” in Toy Story &

Toy Story 2!

Don’t forget the commercials we see in TS2 as well!!

I noticed there is always a Toy

Story item in each Pixar movie.

That’s because Toy Story has an especially

special place in the hearts of the Pixar animators/workers since it was the first… and such an amazing

achievement. There’s also some dates scattered around here and there… like McQueen’s '95… release date of

TS.

I don’t remember ever seeing any toy Nemo,

although I do remember him having a Nemo bib in promotional pictures… I guess I’ll have to go look for that!

I know there are a fair amount of references to the Hidden City Caf?. The main one, of course, is the

restaurant of the same name in Monsters, Inc., but there are also at least two license plates on random cars in

Toy Story 2 that say HDNCTY or HIDNCTY or HDNCITY or some variation along those lines. I wouldn’t be surprised

if there are some other references elsewhere.

Oops, that might be me getting confused! XD Late night!

Here is a list i compiled at Upcoming Pixar of all the

If you count that one then you have to count in the scene where Lightning is

first being chased by Sheriff at night and he thinks he’s being shot at, the line "Serpantine!

Serpantine!" is a refference to the movie “The In-laws.”

Watch The Incredibles. During the final battle with

the Omnidroid, while Mr. Incredible is holding the claw after its jet has activated, as he shouts

“Honey!” to Elastigirl, a non-anthropomorphized Doc Hudson can be seen in the background.
