Would it be possible to do that? i don’t think it is much wok to do it, and it can be fun to “talk” in real-time with members.
Thanks anyway,

Making now.
Called PixarPlanet.
Hold it, WALL•E. Give the staff time to discuss it first. ![]()
Well if you want one I have set one up @ /server irc.dal.net
#PixarPlanet
I am called GLaDOS so If I’m in there you got the right one!
The point is, it cannot carry the Pixar Planet name if we haven’t endorsed the idea.
Eventually we might create a chat room, but I’m pretty certain we would house it here.
Yeah, I agree with PV. WALL•E, it’s great that you know how to make one, but we should talk it over before you just make one.
For us technophobes, what exactly is an IRC-Channel?
Internet Relay Chat. It’s chatrooms. But a lot more complicated than browser chatrooms.
A chatroom huh? That would be cool, but don’t we like chat already through our posts?
but a chatroom is instant!
I just might think it a little wierd to have it. (THis is just my opinion). We already chat via posting.
but you see it come up in front of your eyes without refreshing the page.
I guess it would be up to the admins to decide something like that. But we’ll see.
I’m against a chat room because it would take away from the boards. I think the only reason for a chat room would be for live suggestions, comments and questions to Radio Pixar.
You make a good point martini. A chat room would take away the whole point of the board. You wouldn’t even need a board anymore… everyone would just talk through there. ![]()
WALL-E: WHat might work for one might not work for others. I personally love it that we chat via posting. I think a chat room would be a little less organized. So many typing up something in the chatbox at once.
Once again, Agree to Disagree.
I like the idea of a chatroom for short amounts of time, for example, if we wanted to develop an idea for something or discuss something important all at once. In that sense, having a chatroom available if necessary would be pretty useful.
But I think it should only be used as a backup. As others have said, a chatroom would distract from the boards and I wouldn’t be surprised if the chat would veer away from Pixar very quickly.
The whole point of these boards is to bring together a big community of Pixar fans. Posting in the way that we do now means that (most of the time, at least) people think about what they’re going to write before posting, which leads to well-developed and interesting conversations. Instant chatting would be pretty fruitless in comparison.
I’ve thought about this before. It would be good if you needed to have a conference with a few other people since replying back to a PM seems to be slow. I can’t think of any reason why I would need to have a conference with more than once member (a private chatroom if they are online, that is) but it would come in handy. So you would send someone a message inviting to chat with them, then you can invite someone else to chat with both of you at the same time. It’s probably a coding nightmare, so I don’t mind if it doesn’t happen. Just something I thought would be cool.
A chat room, I’m not so sure about. It wouldn’t replace the boards since the boards are good for expanding upon points, and a chat room is just for chatting. I think it would just be a bit of time waster when we should all be focusing more on Pixar rather than mindless chatting, though it is good to talk about off-topic things sometimes.
