That was a main character, but it wasn’t the lead character. I haven’t seen as
many non-Pixar CGI films as I’m sure you guys have, but I know I can’t think of any female leads, either. I
can think of one or two rather-clich?-and-incredibly-unimportant-to-the-story CGI females, though (cough Bo Peep
).
Well, they had to have Bo Peep so Andy could have a
female toy to rescue during playtime. ![]()
~~=oP
No, I guess Shrek was
the true lead for…well, Shrek. Hmm…Dash, did you say Hoodwinked? I’ve never heard of that film before- is it
CGI?
How about Doogal?
When it comes to female leads in animated films, I think
Disney takes the top spot for that. ![]()
Hey, ooh, what about Rupunzel?
Yes - Little Red Riding Hood or “Red” as
SHE is called is the lead in Hoodwinked which is really cute and despite the bad animation I recommend seeing
because it is a good story. And yes it is CGI.
I thought about Doogal too but the real lead in there is
Doogal who I’m pretty sure is a male dog.
So yeah - Hoodwinked is all I can come up with for CGI females.
But as Meg said, Disney is King err… I guess in this case Queen of female animated leads when you consider
Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Pocahotas, Mulan, Snow White, and a fair
host of others.
Really? Yeah. Unsure if Doogal was male or female given the voice…
Disney certainly do have the
most female leads, but the problem is that they’re not exactly the best role-model for young girls. Not only
are the bodies IMPOSSIBLE to achieve – I swear to God, Jasmine’s eyebrows are thicker than her waist – but
they are always the victims. Even in The Little Mermaid, where the ending strayed
from the original fairy tale to be happier and romantic et al, Prince Eric was still the one who saved
Ariel.
The only Disney films I can think of that break the trend are Mulan and Pocahontas… But then,
the girl saving the guys is sort of the point of those stories…
And even then, in
Pocahontas, you had the massive struggle with Kocoum and Thomas in which Pocahontas
lay on the ground crying, ‘Stop it! Wah!’ and you had Governor Ratcliffe trying to kill Powhatan, which John
Smith saved him from… Pocahontas only really stood up against her own father.
(I still love them,
though!
)
Lol, Mell, that’s a pretty good summary of Disney films-
even when Disney try to put a female in the lead, they always stray off down the traditional path.
I saw
some posters for Hoodwinked which looks…interesting…And when I went to see Cars, all of the adverts before it
were of CGI films coming out, and all of them looked terrible. There was one about animals scaring away humans,
and the animation on that was so strange that I could’nt recognise some of the animals. And there was a cow one
that had very basic animation and just looked plain scary. Pixar really is in a different league.
