She fears going back into the box in Toy Story 2 and hyperventilates. Prospector has to promise that she will come out again for her to go in.
I am here to propose that the box is a wonderful, safe cocoon where no one can hurt you. Sure you are alone, but this solitude is perfect and complete. One should always think outside the box, but I have taken it upon myself to live IN the box. Human contact is out, except through this medium of the Internet.
Actually, I already live like that.
But this thread is about Jessie, not me. So…is she claustrophobic?
I think it has less to do with the fact that it’s an enclosed space and more to do with her fear of being abandoned again, which the box represents to a point.
This is pretty much it. Remember, she was donated in a similar box as well. She has not problem going in, but what matters is when she’ll come out, which seems to be unsettling for her.
I read in a Toy Story magazine that she’s actually afraid of the dark. Since she was in the dark box for so long (No actual time frame is given but since she hasn’t had an owner since Emily I imagine she’s been stuck in the box at least since she was abandoned) and when she panics about going back in the box she shouts at Stinky Pete “I WON’T GO BACK IN THE DARK!” So I think it’s more a fear of the dark than claustrophobia.
