It's a sad day when...

good point peoples i have to say something:
They could be making money for pixar and other movie makers
i heard once on the news about this music site that when people clicked the site earned like 10cents or something and that was how they paid for the website and stuff… it wasnt a download it was if you wanted to listen and if you replayed or reclicked the page the site would earn more money downloading is just downright rude but watching and help paying for by clicking i something i can handle mentally

So true. Google looses tons of cash of something similar: the I’m Feeling Lucky button.
They do make money off of that, the ads and such. If Pixar threw up something legit onto a site that was add heavy but i got to watch Wall-E, I would totally do it. But for right now they dont.

Yeah, I do realize I’ve committed a crime. I just wanted to plead my case in saying that between gas money and ticket prices I’ve likely spent $100+ on the film and any more and I’d be going broke.

And I do plan on purchasing the DVD the moment it’s available.

So true with how gas is…annoying. But at least you admit its a crime. Honestly if I downloaded it, I would delete it soon after. But I guess thats personal choice.

I’m not really going to pass judgement on the fact that you downloaded it, but why didn’t you just wait until a better quality version hit the Internet? This deserves to be watched in the highest quality possible (or at least as a screener).

To be honest, I downloaded it mostly because I wanted to see if I could grab snippets of audio of Eve and Wall-E to make ringtones (And Adium Sound Events) out of.

And I just kinda like to leave it playing in the background to just listen to it.

There’s no way for me to prove it without scanning my ticket stubs (Which I’ve thrown away, with the exception of my opening day ticket, regrettably.) but here’s me paying for it three times with my card (2 tickets the first two times and 3 the final time.) The third time was paid with cash so it wouldn’t appear on my card balance.

And yes, I do know this makes it no more legal, I just didn’t want everyone here hating me because they though I just downloaded the damn movie without paying to see it.

We dont hate you for it. Nor do I think your some horrible person.
For me you dont need to prove yourself. And I can understand why you have it.

It is an extremely unfortunate state when huge Pixar fans, or fans of anything in general, are almost treated third class. Its been extremely disappointing and sorrowful that by living in Australia and having to wait three months for the release, but using a worldwide web in the meantime, that the movie has been completely spoiled for many of us regardless of bit-torrents because so many Americans at social forums are speaking far too liberally about the plot points and what happens.

These movies are tent poles, they should not have staggered releases, especially not in English speaking countries. I love Pixar so much, and admire their films and ideas so much, but I hope that Disney takes the biggest box office hit on Wall E worldwide because of this, and I hope that it is completely at the fault of excessive Bit-Torrent downloads.

I started to download the movie myself two days ago because the wait is absolutely killing me, I noticed that there were another 25,000 people downloading it at the same time. I stopped then, because I didn’t want to be part of the problem, but its very hard to do that when its something you have been following for years, and the hype online, everywhere you go is at feverpitch.

I can tell you now that if they do the same thing With Up! and Toy Story 3 that I wont be able to continue to contain myself.

I’m sorry to hear that happening to you and I can understand your excitement. The thing with downloading in a torrent format and with limited access. (In your case…none) I can see why you would want to. I dont understand why Disney does that…the staggering of movies. For games I get that. Formats and such need to be changed. But movies seem a little silly.

I can only imagine it has something to do with promotion of the film since movie directors tend to visit a lot of countries to promote their productions? In any case, I think a December 20, 2008 release date for WALL-E in Japan is quite staggering! The Blu-ray Disc and DVD will have been out for almost 2 months in the US by then and DVD-rips and HD x264-rips have likely been spread everywhere over the internet. Not to mention Japan and the US share the same Blu-ray Disc region.

Getting the Blu-ray copy before actually seeing the film? I would almost say its worth it. But seeing Wall-E’s cute face on the silver screen is worth its weight in gold. I dont mean to rub it in to you all who haven’t gotten the pleasure of seeing it. I feel saddened that not everyone in the world can see it all at the same time

It’s not any more feasible for someone who’s used torrents illegally to be caught, tried, and sentenced than it is to catch everyone who’s viewed illegal YouTube videos (which is MOST of them, video podcasts aside). It’s far harder to catch someone who’s used torrents than, say, YouTube, and on top of that, it’s extremely difficult to actually prove that someone did it. They can sometimes trace the IP, but that just means that someone on a certain computer did it, and they need the hard evidence to prove it, which means confiscating the hard drive. Unless they already have proof, however, they can’t enter the house to do so, and breaking into one’s computer to gain access to records is illegal, so any evidence they found would be thrown out in court.

For better or worse, the Internet is a safe way to get anything digitally that you want.

Agreed. The day they lock down the net is the day people stop using it. The free sharing of ideas and data, but really tracking for hard evidence with torrents is near impossible. If they got a hold of your MAC address then yes…they could nail you.
Guess you could just strap some thermite to your hard drive. That would officially get rid of all information…and your case…and your floor

I saw WALL-E three times in theaters before running out of money, and then, yes, I downloaded the high quality CAM that came out eventually, and enjoyed it that way too. I will also buy the DVD on release date and enjoy the movie and all the features that I’m looking forward to. I will also probably enjoy it via the torrent again before that happens since I’m sure they’ll wait a while to release this one. Do I feel I’ve done something horribly horribly wrong? Nope, and that’s just my opinion.

I guess I should admit that I watched Wall-E with my cousin after he downloaded it off limewire. I’m not very sure who’s responsible for the act of stealing, but I do feel bad for not giving Pixar what they worked for.

Just wanted to buy a normal Wall-E DVD, but I guess I’ll save up and buy Blue-Ray now.

Actually, it’s a common misconseption that if people download a movie or TV show off the internet that the people who made it won’t get any money for it. My dad often downloads music off file share websites and since he dosen’t have to pay to try listening to a group he tries more kinds of music and will go to buy a cd of a group he likes or he’ll rediscover a group he hasn’t bought a cd of in years, so by downloading something for free he’s actually giving the copyright holders money. Similarly, I’ve downloaded some forein movies and episodes of TV shows off the internet so I can tell if I like it before buying the video, I’d still buy it if I could get it for a resonable price but if I wasn’t able to see it first I might not have bought it (especially since I have a region free DVD player & many of the shows I’m interested in now either are released for TV and are too heavily edited or haven’t come here at all so alot of the things I’d want to buy if I bought it and didn’t like it I’d be stuck with the DVD) so by having me download and watch the series for free not only will I buy the videos when I can but I also buy the other merchandise. In fact I’ve read on the Japanese version of youtube, Niconico, people will post episodes of shows they like and the companies will allow certain episodes such as the first one and key plot point episodes and the most recent one that might hook people into seeing more, so something that would be a problem is actually helping and some series have been renewed because people who saw it after it aired liked it so much.

Also sometimes it’s the only way to see something, for example when I was 9 (although I was 8 when it started) the saturday morning line up I watched aired one show that I really loved and that I’d even get up at 6:30 am, two hours before it started, so I could set up the tape to record it. I recently found a website that actually has brand new copies of the video tapes and since the original version of the show aired about 10 years ago and there’s no DVD version I plan to buy the videos and fansub it, if I didn’t do that even people who love the show might not be able to see the original version. Another show I’d like to fansub in having a few DVDs of the show and two out of three CDs and ordering the game that makes me the biggest fan of the series outside the country it came from but by translating it and making it acessable to others, I’m helping the people who make it by making people they never expected would watch it intersted and buying the merchandise themselves using import websites so the company will be getting money for this show from a time and place they never expected. I admit I’ve even watched theater movies that I wanted to see again on the internet because the only theater in the area I live in that I feel comfortable going to is a bit expensive and I still buy or rent the DVD and the company still got money for me seeing it in theaters. And there’s one show that I love this one character who doesn’t show up that much but don’t really like the rest of the show, I’ve downloaded all the episodes with that character and I’ve bought merchandise with that character. So the internet allowed me to see the episodes with the character that I probably wouldn’t get to see otherwise since I would have a diffecult time getting my mom to help me buy an hour long $30+shipping DVD for less than 10mins of footage on average

What is really annoying is these people who suggest that they’re posting a video of a movie in good quality and just have one picture or even say “go see it in theaters”, I’ve already seen it in theaters I’m loking for the download in case I learn to use my video edtiting software before the DVD comes out so I can still make nice looking video. Another annoying thing is when an episode clip is taken down they say It’s been removed because of a complaint by the copyright holder and all Western made TV shows are removed because of a complaint by the station or distributor. Pixar, Disney and other movie animation companies get credited and the complant is by the studio, all Japanese animation videos removed are removed at the request of the studio that made it regardless of if it’s a movie or TV show, but a Western made TV show is removed by request of the company that distributes it. Why would it be the distributor that get’s credited? All they do is promote it they should give credit to the people who did the actual work, one TV company is really bad about this that they obcess over any possible infringment on the copy right of the shows they’ve sponcered but they edit big chunks out of forein TV shows that they distribute without thinking about how the creators feel about this being done to something they worked so hard to create.

I do, think it is a shame that people watch terrific movies such as Wall-E online without actually going out to see the movie in theaters and buying the dvd. It rips the movie makers off, and it takes away from the full experiance of the film. However, I wouldn’t be to quick to pass judgment on every person who downloads off the internet.

I myself, plan to watch wall-e online, but probably on a site like watchmovies.net. It is I know, illegal, but as for feeling guilty for cheating Pixar? I don’t personally, because I am 100 percent positive that I am going to buy the dvd when it is relased. I figure, everytime I watch my dvd they aren’t going to get any money, they will only get the money that I pay for the dvd.
So the few times I will watch it online shouldn’t matter as long as I buy it when it comes out. Which I will, trusttttt me.

I am not trying to justify my illegal actions or anything, I am just trying to say that I respect pixar and Wall-E to the highest degree and if I felt I was cheating them in any way or degrading the film I would not do it. I would feel offended if anyone questioned my loyaty to the movie or Pixar just because I’m going to watch it online, and I am sure a lot of other people who watch it on the net feel the same way.

Ok, I’m coming into this topic a little late in the game, but I felt like saying something. I agree with what you just said. For me, I have seen WALL-E 6 times in theaters and would have seen it more times, but when I was at home I had no car. When I was out at school and could take the bus to the theater, the movie was only in theaters for a certain amount of time. But my school has a dollar theater that will releasing WALL-E for the first and second weekends in November, so I will probably go pay to see it there at least 3 more times, and then the week after, I will be buying the DVD. So That’s a total of about $66.50 in theater tickets, in addition to all the WALL-E merchandise I’ve bought. It’s not much, but I wouldn’t have ended up paying any more even without downloading the torrent. And I could watch WALL-E every day if I wanted to, but I choose not to, because I prefer a high quality experience. The reason i got in the first place is because I was suffering from major withdrawal and no one was willing to take me to go see it again for another week. Then I just used it to make my video, and now I just use it as a reference when discussing certain scenes/aspects of the film on other forums.

So basically what I’m trying to say, is that, yes, I know it’s illegal to download movies, but, like WallEveLove said, one shouldn’t be quick to judge. There are those who download movies just because they don’t feel like seeing it in theaters or renting/buying it on DVD, and that’s what I personally consider wrong. But I guess it just depends on your opinion. Personally, I respect all of you who are able to restrain yourselves, lol! I don’t have that kind of self control! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, it’s sad that so many people have downloaded it. Pixar made kind of a mistake releasing it so spread apart because anyone can download it anywhere. The DVD will be available in some places before it has been released in others

Ya know, if I were to download a bootleg or anything … not saying that I do … but if I did … I’d wind up buying it on DVD anyways. I’m weird like that. I think it’s the features that get me … yup. It is. Because … I am now bent on getting another copy of Sweeney just because my dad had gotten me a one-disc fullscreen. :stuck_out_tongue: No features!
