I've got some major complaints on international DVD releases

Well, the title says it all… :unamused:

I mean, I personally believe that the DVD releases are getting worse ever since Disney bought Pixar… We only get 1 disc instead of the full of bonus features 2-discs versions…
But I’m really annoyed with the last Portuguese releases… It all started last year with Cars: our DVD’s don’t have the deleted scenes, which was something I was really looking forward to see.
And, just a few moments ago, I bought Ratatouille (YAY! ), and I still haven’t seen it, but I was able to notice that the exact same thing happened: no deleted scenes. :frowning:

If anyone out there who’s not from the US is reading this, please tell me: is this happening to you too? I mean, come on, this is so not fair!
And one last thing: if this doesn’t go against any rules or something, could someone please post some screenshots from the deleted scenes? Both Cars and Ratatouille. If so, thank you!

I don’t have PowerDVD or anything like that, but if I did, I’d love to help you out with that. Are some descriptions okay?

Cars:
Lost: An alternate gas station scene. Mack has to go to a truckstop to clean out the moths from his grill. (disgusting!) Lightning, being very impatient, decides to go outside for a moment while Mack is “wasting time”, just to get some air. Bad move for McQueen, because soon enough, dozens of fans are crowding around him, including the original Mia and Tia, waitresses at the gas station. Mack, after being waked up big-time by a splash of water, drives off with McQueen’s trailer, thinking McQueen is still inside. McQueen soon notices that his trailer isn’t there, and gets lost looking for Mack, and eventually finds his way into Radiator Springs.

(more to come! )

To be honest, I’m just not really one for extras. I can understand everyone being really annoyed at the lack of extras on the release of Ratatouille’s DVD, but personally, I just don’t get concerned about it- as long as I’m actually able to see the film, then that’s okay. But then, that’s another thing- international release dates are getting pretty ridiculous, too.

The thing is, we’re not really able to do anything about it. It wouldn’t surprise me if things stayed like this for a long while yet- whatever country makes the product is the country that most benefits. And even in this case, the Ratatouille extras are still considerably stingy.

I wish it was more fair globally, that every country got the same package and experience, that everything was, essentially, fair, but for reasons that more often than not relate to money and profit, it just doesn’t work that way. Maybe one day, Disney will learn their lesson, but as long as people keep buying their products, or if someone really causes a stir, that just isn’t going to happen.

I’m not exactly sure what extras are going to be on the Australian release of the Ratatouille DVD - I presume that it will be exactly the same as the US release. If not, then I’ll just buy the Australian collector’s tin like I was planning too (at least that’s something we get over the US), and then I’ll buy the US 1-disc version on eBay.

Funnily enough, it actually looks like the US/Australia/England/Canada are missing out on all the other extras that will be included on the French/possibly the German version, because of the whole Blu-Ray war and Disney really trying to push the format.

Apparently, the big decider in the format war will be the English speaking countries, so they haven’t pushed it as much in Europe which is why they are getting all the cool extras on a 2-disc set of Ratatouille, and the English-speaking countries aren’t.

There is no way that I am going to cave in and buy a Blu-Ray player, and BR version of Ratatouille just because Disney-Pixar chose to withhold the extras, instead of giving us a 2-disc version like they were perfectly capable of doing with The Incredibles and their prior films.

So, yeah, I think it’s really selfish of them to do this, and all I can say is I hope in few years when this format war is over, we get a 2-disc of Ratatouille (and WALL-E, and Up) with a heck of a lot of extras! And I mean just as many as the The Incredibles got, and more.

In the meantime, I’m going see what extras the French and German versions get. I’m really hoping their extras, such as commentary, are English audio with it subtitled - so that I can understand it, and also so I can supply the commentary track to others who missed out.

And as for international release dates… don’t get me started on that topic again. :unamused:

Some international releases ended up better than even the American ones. Like didnt the french or german Cars have 2 discs and come in a special case and stuff? I think the extras should be the same for everybody.
