When I first saw The Steadfast Soldier from Fantasia
2000 I thought to myself Hmmm… this jack in the box looks so
familiar…
Then it came to me… he reminds me of Frollo!
. The facial
features
.The controlling behavior
.Desire for the lovely dancer
.Death by fiery
inferno
Did anyone else see the resemlance from the begining?
Now that
you mentioned it . . . he DOES seem similar.
But in th end, I see the Jack in the Box as more of
a pathetic baddie and Frollo as JUST. PLAIN. SCARY. ("Like Fire . .
.")
I
agree… Frollo’s scary! Scarier then seeing my former gym teacher naked.
Hellfire will always be my
favorite Disney song though
He’s also a classic grey character too. "It’s not
my fault! It was the gypsey . . ."
Always blaming everyone else, like Demona!!

I agree that Hellfire is among the greatest Disney songs
ever and God Help the Outcast is severely underrated as well.
Overall, I think the Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of the most underated Disney films to
date. Maybe because kids found it so scary?? (Hey, I was scared . . . but I love it now, even though I’m still
a little creeped out!)
I seriously consider it to be one of the last great Disney films of the Second
Golden Era (according to Lasseter there were two Golden Eras of Disney . . . one in the 30’s, and one in the
late 80’s - 90’s)

It had a lot of adult situations and stuff, and some parents were a little
uncomfortable taking their kids to see it.
My mom had no qualms about it, lucky for moi
I just saw it today on VHS, and whooo, that Frollo IS still scary, but I notice even more so
his grayness – the irony of his attraction to a gypsey when he’s purged them for more than 20 years!
I
also liked Phoebus more so this time around. Before (and since I first watched the movie) I always had a
“blag” kind of feeling for him. But I generally like the guy now!
But I have one query, and
this may be because I grew on Gargoyles: Are Quasi’s Gargs supposed to be alive or
not? I mean, are they really alive, or just a figment of his imagination (due to his solitation)??
I was
confused with that at first as well, but I think they are meant to be alive. After ‘A Guy Like You’, when
Esmerelda bursts in, everything turns to stone rather than disappears (like it would if it were imaginary), Hugo
interacts with Djai the goat, they pour molten lead (or whatever it is) out of the cathedral and drop the
catapult onto the soldiers, and the gargoyle at the end which breaks off (killing Frollo) seems to come to life
as well, deliberately killing him.
Quasimodo was busy while all of that was going on, so there’s no way he
could have imagined the gargoyles were doing it while he was doing it himself.
Anyone have a favorite garoyle?

I suppose this would be
an appropriate place to mention the passing of Tony Jay (voice of Frollo). Find more info at
Animated News.
Aww!
He had an excellent career though. A moment of silence.
Yeah, I just heard that from the Ask
Greg Site. He played the voice of Anubis in Gargoyles, and THAT was always a favorite of mine. Yes, he will be
missed . . .
