This is Tars Tarkas, 15’ tall green warrior from the Kerry Conran ( Sky Captain )version years back ( that didn’t happen ) It was just too cool not to show. Artwork is by Rafael Kayanan.http://rafaelkayanan.blogspot.com/ - Jeff
For some reason, I can’t wrap my mind at how Pixar would create such a character (too complex, maybe…), but thanks for the pic, Blazegaurd Jeff! ![]()
I’m very excited about this movie. From what I understand, it’s got plenty of swashbuckling adventure with a good dose of pulpy space opera on the side. I just ordered the first two books of the Barsoom series from Amazon (they come in a very beautiful looking hardcover set) and look forward to reading them.
HI! Also a huge John Carter of Mars and all-around Burroughs fan. I never met a Pixar flick I didn’t like either, but the former reason is my predominant one for joining.
I’ve got some Mars Art myself…
^It’s a burroughs hodgpodge, but a sharp-eyed fan could probably distinguish my renditions of a White Barsoomian Ape, Kantos Kan, Tars Tarkas, John Carter, Dejah Thoris, Sola, Woola, Ghek, Sarkoja, Carthoris, Thuvia and a Banth.
Anybody that wants to know who the heck those people are and wants a preview of sorts into what should be one of the greatest film trilogies ever, READ THE BOOKS! The first two are awesome, the third is, well, really good.
Tars Tarkas owns.
And for what it’s worth, Steven E. Gordon, character designer for X-Men Evolution made a few sweet JCOM illustrations himself…
Radrad, hey, I can see that you are pretty excited for John Carter.
Welcome to PP by the way.
Hey, I’m actually starting to get excitied for John Carter of Mars by just looking at this artwork. How are they ever going to pull this one off? This is Pixar we’re talking about anyway, so they’ll have no problem. Welcome to PP, guys. ![]()
Those drawings are creeping me out.
But whatever it is, Pixar can do it. I wasn’t too excited about movies about talking racecars or three-inch-tall chefs, but Pixar did them very well, and they’re now my favorite movies.
Thank you for that warm welcome.
I’d say I don’t deserve it but after that bizarre number puzzle in registration, it seems appropriate lol. Here’s s’more of my JCOM drawings.
Tars Tarkas and JC’s son Carthoris
Tars & JC surrounded.
woa Pixar make John Laster movie ?? I hope they can recreate the character on the movie to Pixar style… ![]()
tikus_kecil - I’m sure they’ll pull it off just fine, dude. ![]()
Me too! ![]()
A few moments ago I realized that 2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of publication for John Carter of Mars. The first novel has been serialized in All Story from february to july 1912 with the title Under the Moons of Mars, than reprinted 5 years later as a one shot and a new title : a Princess of Mars.
Personally I prefer the first title . I really liked the idea to have the forthcoming picture named with the original title. What do you think about it?
saluti
I also thought UTMOM was a better title. I imagine since this is gonna be a trilogy, the titles might go something like John Carter & The Princess Of Mars, John Carter & The Gods Of Mars and John Carter, The Warlord Of Mars. The series itself just being called the John Carter Of Mars series. And now, some more 300–er, I mean JCOM art that’s totally original and in no way insPired by anything else.
Haha, very clever RadRad. I must agree with you on the fact that they will probably be John Carter & The Princess of Mars etc. It seems only logical.
Hey, that’s some nice artwork you got there. Maybe you should start a fan art thread in the future. I would love to see more from you.
