Ken's original owner

After hearing what Lee Unkrich said about [spoil]Ken never meeting a Barbie before[/spoil] (in one of the interviews) and then seeing Goovin with Ken youtube.com/watch?v=XTfxrnuCjdA I’m wondering perhaps this Ken was originally owned by a little boy.

To be honest, I had Jordan, Ken, G.I.Joe and Barbie (Teresa actually) and played with them all growing up. I still have a large 1:6 collection.

I’m just wondering if its plausible and what your thoughts are on the matter. -Omar

EDIT- Please add spoiler tags to any potential spoilers in your posts, even when the information might have been revealed in an interview or something like that, thanks!

Hmm, I think that’s a pretty plausible explanation. Most little boys wouldn’t have any Barbies (though some may do from their older or younger sisters having them) so as you said, perhaps the explanation for Ken [spoil]not ever having seen a Barbie before is due to him being owned by a young boy who has no sisters[/spoil].

Sorry lizardgirl. My humblest apologies for the lack of spoiler tags

I could have very well been that boy. I didn’t buy my first Barbie until I was a sophomore in high school. -Omar

No worries, actionman81.

There’s also an alternative explanation- Ken may have been owned by a [spoil]tomboy-ish girl. I know I never had Barbies when I was younger, and Ken being owned by a girl might also explain his rather camp character and appearence (though that might just be down to the type of toy he is).[/spoil]

Personally, I think its just the latter. -Omar

That’s a pretty good theory, actionman81, and it ties right in with the [spoil]“I’m not a girl’s toy!”[/spoil] scene!

Or maybe [spoil]he never had an owner. He was bought directly by Sunnyside.[/spoil]

Mabey the owners parents thought there child was gonna be a girl so they bought him it and Barbires. when they were born a boy they gave away all the Barbies and he used Ken as an action figure.

A lot of great ideas, guys, but I think this is plausible because Ken isn’t beat-up at all like the others (especially since he’s vintage).

I agree with you actionman81! It definitely fits in with the idea of him [spoil]thinking that he’s not a girl’s toy. If he was only ever owned by a boy, it would be all he had ever known![/spoil]

Though Dinoco and pixarfan9099 present good points too.

Personally, [spoil] it seems like Ken is well liked and sorta in the higher up’s at Sunnyside. He knows the place enough to give a tour to Andy’s group. My best guess is he was owned by a boy back in the day, and was donated to Sunnyside, where he’s been for a long time. Either that, or girls playing with him enjoy dressing him in terrrible ascots…[/spoil]
