Okay I saw it. Not because I wanted to, but I was asked to see it at the drive in with some friends at work, and I figured why not? I had nothing better to do. And…it wasnt bad. Enjoyable way to pass 2 hours, but you wouldnt catch me buying it. I must say I liked Dustin Hoffman’s character, the Red Panda (I cant remember his name) . Maybe because I usually like [spoil]characters with inner turmoil or hidden pasts or whatever. Which the red panda has[/spoil]
Spirit was like a jump start to my already 2d lacking heart…really. James Baxter being the Animator who did Quesmotoo (SP) In The hunchback and Several other films including Spirit…he’s right up there next to Andreas Deja and Richard Williams (the animators who actually made it after Disney Died) these guys studied with some of the 9 old men…they’re some of the most brilliant 2d animators of our time…Spirit to me was a breakthrough…until they fell through.
The should have gone and made an amazing 2d animation studio…instead they made themselves a second-rate copy-cat studio. I’m sorry but it’s sort of true…Katzenberug or whatever his name is said just recently “if I had it my way we would be making 5 Kung foo panda movies” I take the man seriously since Shrek 5 is coming out in like 2-3 more years?..After shrek 4.
now, I also want to add…A very good friend of mine works at Dreamworks…he is an amazing artist and animator…and from my understanding Dreamworks is working on some VERY original Animated films…one being How to train your Dragon…which my friend is currently working on.
I still think it’s too bad good things have to leave so soon!
All I hear is James Baxter, James Baxter, Jame Baxter. <3
I dearly love me some DW 2D. Spirit is my favorite and the 1st 2D that made me really want to do animation/storyboards.
With the exception of Shrek (1&2) and KFP I feel that this was the best of their storytelling abilities. I guess as far as moving the story along.
Anyways. Mitch Have you any idea how long it took me to figure out that Shifu was a red panda?! It’s embarrassing. I love red pandas, I even have 2 RP characters. If his color wasn’t so far off it wouldn’t have taken that long. He’s still adorable though.
Dude, I swear, I eventually had to ask my sister what the heck he was because I just couldn’t figure it out! I guessed that he was a red panda from the start, but I needed sheer proof. Naturally, my sister had the answer right away, being the omni-geek that she is.
But yeah, he’s awesome nonetheless. I mean…
[spoil]… I was nearly in tears near the end of the film, which, to me, is beyond pitiful. The guy is, like, a billion years older than I am and I was on the verge of crying when I thought that he died… It was so pitiful. (snigger) [/spoil]
I’ve gotta see the film again, man… runs off to the nearest cinema
Oh yeah! That was his name! I honestly didnt realize he was a red panda either until one of the other girls in the car pointed out that he was. Then we just called him “the red panda” which is probably why I forgot his name…
Aw, KFP!
I must admit that this film grew on me. I’ve seen it twice already Probably the best part for me was the intro and the credits, but the whole film was a really pleasant surprise, as many have said before me.
[spoil]Was anyone else sorta touched at the scene before the hidden end? Where Po put an action figure of himself next to the 5? Really cool beans…[/spoil]
My friends invited me to see Kung Fu Panda with them in theatres so I thought what the hey. Anything with Dustin Hoffman or Jack Black (even if it’s only their voices) deserves my attention.
I thought it was adorable! I really think I enjoyed this more than any Shrek movie. The plot was predictable, but the message was sweet and I ended up liking all of the characters. I also thought the animation was great and it really makes me want to visit China… or at least learn kung fu. Lots of fun!
