Lack of Marketing/Advertising

Has anyone else found this with WALL-E? It’s less than two weeks to its release over here now, and I’ve spoken to a surprising number of people who have never even heard of WALL-E before. How long did it take in your respective countries for the advertising to kick off? Because I swear that Ratatouille was being advertised on TV a few weeks before its release…

The first tv commercial I saw here in the US was during the Super Bowl back in February. I don’t watch very much tv, so I don’t know if there was more advertising when the film was nearing release in June.

There was LOADS of WALL•E trailers and clips and special sneak peaks on the Disney Channel a few weeks before it came out

Yeah, there was plenty of advertising.

I would see WALLE pop up every now and then, but when it got to the last week, I would see at least one or two commercials of it on TV a day.

I’m guessing most, if not all of you (besides lizadgirl) are talking about the US, and I can confirm, WALL-E is everywhere here, and since February EVERYONE, young and old, knew who WALL-E is becase of the SuperBowl ad. TV ads have been popping up since early May and tehy’ve been in theatres for a while too. I’m guessing your advertisement (in the UK right) should kick in in the next few days, assuming it’s coming out in only two weeks. Also consider this, are you aksing your older friends? I know all the kids in the US know about WALL-E, and I’m guessing kids in the UK are more exposed than your friends too.

Well, in America, many of us had WALL•E fever before the film even came out.

Those British don’t seem to have much interest in American movies, except for the minority. Could you explain this to me, LG? I don’t seem to get it very much.

martini- Well, there haven’t been any adverts on the television, no posters (apart from the one that’s actually in the cinema) and generally there hasn’t been much talk of the film. True, I’ve been mainly asking friends of the same age as myself, but I also work in the kid’s section of a shoe shop and whenever a kid comes in wearing a Buzz Lightyear shirt or something, I’ll ask them if they’re seeing the next Pixar film. Just today, I asked a kid and their mother if they were planning to see WALL-E and neither of them had heard of it.

There has been some exposure, I guess- a few early reviews in newspapers, and with Sky Movies now playing some Pixar films, Pixar in itself is getting a bit more exposure. It’s just not as much as I would have expected at this time, though I hope you’re right and that it’ll start up in the next few days.

We got plenty of ads over here, but they only came out recently. A lot of the advertising has been very viral/internet done.

I’ve actually been ver impressed by WALL-E’s extensive advertising here in the states. Obviously I can’t speak for other countries, but I think it makes sense that there would be less adverts internationally than here where the film was originally made. I had the chance to see WALL-E in Hollywood and there were adverts EVERYWHERE. I got off my plane and a WALL-E display was staring me in the fce at my terminal. I rode the subway and a video advertisement was projected onto the train window. At Hollywood & Highland there are building-size posters and in the surrounding areas there were posters at every bus stop and on large billboards every few streets.

A much better campaign than was provided for Ratatouille… which is kind of bittersweet.

I just saw an advert for WALL-E on TV! And about time, too. So, scratch this entire thread then.

Did they recycle one of the US/Canada ads, or is it something new?

I’ve only seen one US ad, but it did seem a bit different. It showed quite a few clips of the humans (more than I remember from the US ads) and obviously the release date was different.
