Le Festin Lyrics!

I’ve always wanted to sing along to this song since I bought the soundtrack, and now I can!

Very nice. Thanks for posting this. Perhaps a translation could be found somewhere?

Heh, I remember seeing a translation on LiveJournal. I think I saw it here too. Maybe a little digging around might find it…? I believe it was in the soundtrack thread.

You are right:

I’ve seen these lyrics but I don’t think we have a topic dedicated to them! So thanks!!!

The French lyrics and English translation of/for the song, Le Festin, can be found on the ninth page of this thread:

Ratatouille Soundtrack

Thanks for posting up the lyrics again, though! It’s always a pleasure to read them.

Ah, it makes so much sense now. Thanks for telling us Mitch.

The Star Swordsman - You are most welcome, dude!

I suppose I should lock this thread now, I think… Perhaps I should ask PV or Dash first…? Hmm…

Just in case, I decided to post the translation back up. It is just poetic isn’t it?

I did a little bit of research on the other forums regarding lyrics to this song. I am a Disney/Pixar fanatic and have every lyric to every song of every animated movie in the Disney and Pixar canons. I am very particular about having the original lyrics. So when a soundtrack does not provide the lyrics (as most Disney/Pixar films of late have not) I have normally settled for the captions of the DVD/VHS. However, Cars introduced me to the second-best source for lyrics: music sheets! About a week ago I finally found the music sheet to Le Festin and simply want to share my findings with everyone. Please keep in mind that the song was originally written in English by the film’s composer, Michael Giacchino, before it was felt it would better suit the film in French and translated so. As stated in another forum (Ratatouille soundtrack), the song was translated by Boualem Lamhene. The following is the French and original English lyrics, as transcribed on the sheet music:

Le Festin

French lyrics:

Jamais on ne me dira

English lyrics:

Dreams are to lovers as wine is to friends
Carried through lifetimes, (and) spilled now and then
I am driven by hunger, so saddened to be
Thieving in darkness; I know you’re not pleased
But nothing worth eating is free

My hope is a banquet impatiently downed
Impossibly full, now I’ll probably drown
Many thieves’ lives are lonely with one mouth to feed
If giving means taking, I’ll never succeed
For nothing worth stealing is…

Free at last; won’t be undersold
Surviving isn’t living; won’t eat what I’m told
Let me free, I’ll astonish you; I’m planning to fly
I won’t let this party just pass me by

The banquet is now underway, so…
Bring out the bottles; a new tale has spun
In clearing this table, my new life’s begun
I am nervous, excited; (oh) just read the marquee!
A lifetime of hiding; I’m suddenly free!
My dinner is waiting for me

A lifetime of hiding; I’m suddenly free!
My dinner is waiting for me

Please enjoy!!

dodgertwin: First of all, welcome to Pixar Planet! YOu have come to the right place! And second of all, thanks for the translation! It is a beautiful piece!

I’m assuming that Le Festin is the song that plays when [spoil]Linguini’s life changes because he is now the chef, and is going out with Colette?[/spoil] If so, I love that song. It’s so beautiful and… French. The language is so divine on its own, but I can relate to the translated lyrics so much, particularly the last two lines.

rachel - The song, Le Festin, plays during the moment you mentioned and at the very end of the film (right before the credits).

Oh oui. Beautiful it is. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

P.S. By the way, did you notice that…

[spoil]…right after Colette says to Skinner, “He’s not in your office. You are in his,” and Linguini and the kitchen crew are celebrating, Linguini kisses Colette ever so tenderly on the head?[/spoil]

I thought that that was rather cute. My sister is actually the one who spotted it.

I noticed that! It was so cute! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

Maggie - Oh, cool! That makes three of us! Heheh. And yeah, it was pretty cute.

– Mitch

Yes. I think I did spot that part on my second viewing. I didn’t notice it before, and it’s so sweet. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

Beautiful song.

You can say that again.
