Legend of the Guardians (September 24 2010)

Uh… whaddaboutit?

The site looks pretty sweet. Though it kinda makes me dizzy. xD

2011 Calendar! <3

You can see an online preview on the Amazon website. I don’t know whether that’s Mrs P in Twilight’s talons, or if I’m just delusional.

:stuck_out_tongue: Yes! Animal Logic must know that there are some big fans out there!

Edited. There is no need to quote the entire post. – Mitch

Oh great and mighty Glaux, let it be true that the wise and kind Mrs P will be in this epic motion-picture adaptation of the legendary books… for the sake of all fans and believers of the Guardians…

I can just feel it in my gizzard! :stuck_out_tongue:

HOORAY!!! I’ve just found confirmation that Mrs P will be in the movie from CHUD. Then I realized that IMDB has already updated the cast-list. XD

A quick check on Wiki reveals that her voice actress, Miriam Margolyes, has had an illustrious career in roles such as Professor Sprout from Harry Potter, Mrs Astrakhan from Happy Feet, ‘Rita’s Grandma’ in Flushed Away, and Fly the sheepdog from Babe! I’ve always wondered who voiced that border collie as a kid, now I know!

All hail the great Mrs P!

Mrs P: Hukla, hukla… :unamused:

Only 50 more nights to the release… am I the only one excited around here? :frowning: Anyway, sorry for the double post, but I gotta share this with you guys!

Kathryn Lasky has posted his review of a test screening she attended at Warner Bros Studio and she was full of praise:

Of course, some of the cynics might say to take these compliments with a pinch of salt, as the filmmakers are adapting her books, after all. But for the fans, this might be the biggest recommendation ever… it’s from the author herself!

I just want to get that giant standee poster!

Kathryn Lasky NEWS

Also, ComingSoon posted a report on the roadshow tour back in July, in which the reviewer, Edward Douglas describes a few scenes shown for the audience. BEWARE SPOILERS ABOUND, but it’s great to have a read if you know the plot. There are a few story changes unfortunately, but they’re not really detrimental or anything. The author was a little critical of the “Aussie accents”, which he frankly admitted “American kids may have trouble understanding”, but other than that, he pretty much fan-gushed about the “absolutely glorious score by David Hirschfelder” and “astounding environments”.

Also, Abbie Cornish who will be starring in Sndyer’s upcoming Sucker Punch voices Otulissa, the prima donna of Soren’s chaw. Can’t wait!

It just occurred to me to check the Hoyts (cinema chain in Australia) website, and it has the release date as the 23rd of September. Woohoo!

whoa, how did I just find this topic? I have to say, I’m really anticipating this  the trailers gave me goosebumps and I love Owls!

Strange, nintendofreak… Events Cinemas and IMAX Darling Harbour here say it’s 30th September… maybe you folks in Perth get it earlier than Sydneysiders? Argh… :frowning:

woody: Wow, I didn’t know you liked owls! The trailers are kinda ‘meh’ for me, so the only reason I’m looking forward to this is in the hope that they remain faithful to the original books, which is freaking-tabulously specatcularesome!

Some great news from Gwendolyn at the Owl Fantasy forums:

Of course, this unnamed source could just be a studio plant, but I’d like to keep my hopes up.

Here’s a YT video Gwendolyn has posted on her account describing some interesting observations about what we can tell about the characters from the theatrical posters and the trailer:

Legend of the Guardians Movie Update 1 WARNING SPOILERS WITHIN

Hoyts is throughout Australia, so it’s certainly not the case that Perth’s getting it earlier (let’s face it, it’s Perth). I suppose it is possible that Hoyts is getting it before other cinema chains through some sort of deal with the studio, but it’s unlikely. We’ll probably have to wait until September for some more conclusive evidence one way or the other, but hopefully it will be released in late September, which is good enough for me (heck, anything looks good compared to IMDB’s date).

Oh, and I’d put a spoiler tag on the sentence about the Pure Ones, since it does contain spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read the books (including yours truly, though the spoiler is hardly surprising to me).

I believe Up was released in stages throughout Australia last year, so some cities got it earlier than others (or was that Toy Story 3? Anyway, it’s one of the recent Pixar films). I do agree with you it would be a bit strange for LOTG to be released territorially, especially since this is an Australian-produced film.

But yes, at least it won’t be an agonizing two month wait as IMDB predicts…

Argh… I’m usually cautious when it comes to revealing spoilers, that bit in the quote totally escaped me! Thanks, nintendofreak!

That must be so awesome. Writing a book, becoming well-known, and having an animated movie based upon your book to top it all off. I hope, sincerely hope, that my Moonrunners, Thylacine, and Rowdy stories will meet the same fate once. If that’d happen I may just cry. A whole week long.

Still, I love where this movie’s going. Only qualm I have is that the owls can move their eyes like mammals. Why do you think owls can turn their heads 130 degrees again…? But then, it was probably to give them more personality.

You’re probably right. I guess the creators had to compromise scientific factuality with emotion expressivity. After all, the fishes in Finding Nemo didn’t have eyes on the sides of their heads! :stuck_out_tongue:

Owl City has posted an update on their Twitter saying:

Can’t wait to hear it! And seriously, when are we gonna get some character featuerettes or TV spots around here?

Well, let’s seem I’ve just started seeing bus stop ads for a few movies coming out on the 2nd of September, so that should mean we’re about three to four weeks from proper advertising for this film over here.

On another matter, does anyone know of any good desktop background images for this film? I just got a new computer, and I’m looking to owl it up.

Ooh… I would love to see some outdoor advertising for Guardians, especially if it’s at the bus stops near Moore Park where Animal Logic is at!

Here ya go: Balashi.deviantart.com/art/Legen … -168600948

Yes, I can picture that ad now - “Made by the people over there!” “Soren animated by the guy standing next to you (maybe)”

Oh, and thanks for the images. I’ll look through them at a more convenient moment.

Two brand-new TV spots featuring the great Mrs P!

It’s great to hear a sample of the Owl City song from the first! And I really hope the background music in the second is from the soundtrack!
Gaaah… little more than a month to go!

Owl City in a movie about owls? That’s just a little bit too ironic. xD

You know, TDIT, I was wondering why you were so obsessed with Mrs P. Then I saw the TV spots, realised she was a snake, and now it all makes sense. Snakes are awesome, and are all too often portrayed as pure evil (which I’m fairly sure Mrs P isn’t, though Pixar movies have made me a bit paranoid in that regard), so this is very refreshing.

Regarding the TV spots themselves, they seem to be aimed at a younger audience than the regular trailers, which arguably makes sense, since it’s a bit hard to show epic win in thirty seconds.

On other matters, my desktop background now features Soren flying through rain.
